That is nice to get an update. Also a fairly smart move given the crap storm which will be our mail system once it is going again.

Yeah probably a wise move as who knows how long this mess with Canada Post is going to last.

I don't think it'll last much longer, thankfully.

Sounds like the government's now considering back-to-work legislation.

When did the Canadian Postal Service go on strike? I sent a package First Class Mail last week and it arrived just fine.

We're not without mail. They're are doing rotating strikes from city to city so there isn't more than a day or two without service in each city. They are also calling in people who sub in for people on sick leave and stuff to work the days the people striking aren't.

It is slowing stuff down, but nothing had stopped yet. I shipped a package to the US last Wednesday and it arrived on the Saturday. Still waiting for the one shipped to me from the US to arrive, but I'm not worried: should only take an extra day or three.

Not anymore - as of this morning Canada Post locked the employees out, so it's full work stop across the country.

It'll go through. They're legislating an end to the Air Canada strike; now that there's been a full Canada Post stoppage they'll end that too.

Even if the Conservatives didn't have their majority, I imagine the postal strike would have gotten enough votes for a back-to-work bill.

My understanding though is that the 48-hour notice they have to legally put on back-to-work orders is to essentially give both parties a deadline to work it out on their own or the government will bring in an arbitrator to impose a solution. Which quite honestly, in this strike, seems like it'll be the only way stuff gets resolved given how far apart both parties are.

How long ago was it mailed, and what type of postal service?

I've noticed stuff usually is 2-3 weeks to mail to the US, in my experience.

Guys just remember, we have a strict no politics rule on the boards. Please talk about the reasons for the strike on Facebook or Twitter, or whatever off-boards method you care to use.

ebay has a general announcement on their announcement section.

said that the postal service pulled a lock out and that no mail would be accepted or delivered until further notice...and it has today's date on it.

sucks for canada right now...don''t blame FP for holding off though.

Good move, FP. Holding everything back is a far better idea than sending them now and having people worry about them. Truly the best choice.
    Yes.
