Culture, man, we just don't get it. Tell me why the fuck would a Japanese gamer be interested in Marcus Cole and his Gears of War? Seriously? For every shitty JRPG they send us, we send them a bald Space Marine, thankfully they don't put up with our crap yet we're more than content to put up with theirs Also, Capcom, Konami, Nintendo, Sony... they all understand the western market and profit handsomely.
A good game is a good game. I have no idea why they don't see that. And if America can embrace games that vary from culture to culture, why can't they?
Don't make me Gabe on you. Oh hell, here it comes- GAD, DAMN. Ah don't give a gad. Damn. About no damn aliens what're invadin', but gad damn it I'm gonna roast their gad damn asses, gad damn it. Step over where yer gad damn goldy locks're hangin' over yer hippie hairlover gad damn face, HAW HAW.
I stand by mine. There's nothing we send them that they can't get more to their tastes done at home, stories told and presented in a way far more suitable for the market. Name some quality non-FPS console games that they Japanese should take notice of? FYI Kratos is an early Bald Space Marine. :3
While I still stand by my post, I want to reinerate that they just won't embrace our culture, and you are backing that up. I don't think Okami is really part of my culture, or even Zelda and Mario, but I certainly enjoy them because they are good games. Gears of War was a great game, no matter what the atmosphere is like.
"When I was your age, I was 'with it'...but then, times changed...and suddenly, what 'it' was seemed weird and strange to me...it'll happen to you someday, too...!!" "No way, man. We're gonna keep on rockin' forever...forever...forever..." Jaysis, I may be misremembering a Simpsons quote. God help me. Anyway, if Microsoft reeeeeeeally wants the Xbox360 to do better in Japan, they just need to partner up with a certain developer and release: The Dragon Quest Limited Edition XBOX360. It could work!!!!!!!! Right?? Right?? BTW, this thread makes with the funny. Approved. -Pit-
Holy shit this thread took a turn for the kick-ass in the last 5 minutes I was editing. I agree one trillion percent with Titty-Twist, and Vangelus... Gawd Dam Eloquent way of putting it.
I was with you up until you said "Gears of War was a great game". Production values is not great game. But then that's merely my opinion and 4 million Xbox 360 owners say different And my point was more that if we do want them to embrace it, then we really have to think harder about how we send it to them. Also, remember that a lot of us older gamers were weened on Japanese shit, it made up at least 60% of what we were playing on the NES and beyond.
Well, not sure what you don't like about Gears, but you are welcome to your opinion. A high prodiction cost does not guarantee good gameplay- but it had that. It also had great characters that were fun to watch in the situations. The story was pretty basic but thanks to the characters I still quote it all the time. Anyways, we were weened on Japanese games. Heck, my top 10 is pretty much all Japanese, but I was still able to warm up to certain genres thanks to the games actually being good. I don't care about the cultural differences, and I still say a lot of them do, and that's too bad, because besides Gears' there are other games too that I think they are missing out on.
Whats that? It looks Japanese, with all that japanese writing stuff all over the screen. Japanese stuff succeeds in the west because they accompany it with fruity Japanese cartoon porn. Seriously though, its true we don't really send them anything they can really sink their teeth into. The premier Japanese 'game' isn't the FPS, or the driving game, it seems to be the RPG. I mean, they CHURN out RPG's like theres no tomorrow. They freaking worship Square-Enix for all the Final Fantasy stuff. I dunno, I think Mass Effect might do better in Japan than everything else to date. But apart from that, I can't see many Western titles being noticed over there. Not enough cartoon porn you see.
True. I really don't know why doe eyed girls with unrealistically amazing bodys that "only look young in every feature besides sexuality and are not actually young so feel free to fantasize about them" aren't a main feature in Gears or most other American games.
I personally Like Gears more than Halo, and I'm sure 5 billion Xbox owners disagree with me. So I'm like TT, but not really. I just like Grit, and Halo is Playdoe Marines, with the happy colors and everything. So basically I just prefer the style of one over the other. Halo is definitely more fun online, while I would take Gears a million times over in Single.
I agree. I wouldn't call either game bad though. Whatever the case- back to the point of the thread- Nintendo needs sexy spokeswomen.
