James Bond has something to do with it. It's an odd thing to just randomly mention James Bond in an article that really has nothing to do with it whatsoever. The new James Bond movie, Casino Royale, comes out Nov. 17th, the same day as the PS3 launch.

You could almost take the line and replace "Final Fantasy" with "Nintendo" and "James Bond" with "Sony", to make it read:

As series go, NINTENDO is to video games what SONY is to movies.

    Hencely... Nintendo=Nov. 6th, and Sony=Nov. 17th.

    Any other ideas?

IGN had an interesting theory when they ran this story. When looking at the release dates of the games listed, a game is released every Monday except October 2nd, November 20th, and November 27nd. IGN also took into the fact that Nintendo said the Wii would launch sooner than later, so they came to the conclusion of Oct. 2nd as the launch date.

This sounds pretty reasonable to me, and after looking at the article for a few minutes, I have to agree with IGN that it's odd nothing is released on those dates. But I also like the James Bond rumour, as identifying those 3 dates is way too easy. At the same time though, the simplest answer is usually the correct one, so I'm leaning towards IGN'S observation.

Nice. Now Nintendo can release it whenever they want and say, "We encoded it for you! Duh!"

    Wii = VV II = 10/2

Anyways, as of now, I think Nintendo might just be pulling our chain.

That would be kinda ironic, but I think probably should have got some release dates from developers. Unless of course Nintendo is telling them to keep everything hush. I am worried about Twilight Princess, if it comes out after the Wii...It's going to lost in a sea of excitement over the Wii T_T

Was at gamestop yesterday looking at their release date list. It listed Zelda for the Wii as 10/2 or 10/3, I forget. There's a lot coming out (at least that I want) that week.

On a geek sidenote, it's also an example of incorrect usage of roman numerals.

I'm hoping for 10/2 as well... that would be perfect timing as I'm coming out of a 5 payday month and will have the extra cash to buy the system and Zelda.

Another theory that was posted on IGN had someone taking the number of words in the first two sentences, 19 and 26. They then added two zeroes in the middle to get 10/09/2006. I think that's stretching things a bit, but it's another possibility.

Whatever date it is, it won't be AFTER the PS3 comes out. Nintendo is bound and determined to get to market before Sony.

Is it me, or are people just reading a whole lot into this?

Sure they might have hidden the release date in there, but then again they might not have.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to say you could replace Final Fantasy with Nintendo and James Bond with Sony.
Sure MGM (who own the james bond right I think) are now owned by Sony, but Final Fantasy isn't owned by Nintendo.

Though I do love this bit.
As series go, FINAL FANTASY is to video games what James Bond is to movies.
So what, long drawn out and way passed there sell by date?

Seeing how James Bond has generated more revenue worldwide than any other film franchise, I don't know that the analogy is completely out of left field. And given the point is about fans debating which is best, a common Bond hobby, its even more apt.

If I were to take a guess, I'd say they are either pulling our leg, or the answer so cryptic that no one will ever know for sure until they reveal it.

Why has Bond created so much revenue?

    THERE ARE LIKE 30 FILMS.
