Thinking about picking up a Nintendo DS to help counter my 14 hour flight to and from Japan which I leave on next week. My question is it worth it? Heard a lot of good things. Also what games would people recommend? I like a lot of the Mario and Zelda type games for the older Nintendo systems.

I just sold mine. Would have gladly sold it to you. If you can get a DS for cheap, now that the DSI is out, I would say yes it's worth it. There is plenty to play on it and an assload of RPGs to keep you busy. There are so many Zelda type games, and if you get a DS you can play SP games on it, which include Zelda Link to the Past and the Legend of Mana games which kick major ass.

Meh. I'm on the fence. I have one, but end up only using it for quick game play on Clubhouse Games. I play it for about 20 minutes before target opens or before a class or something. Other than that I hardly play it.

Well I hardly play games on my PSP either. I use it with a 4gb memory card to watch videos.

I have a DS but i'll be honest I play more GBA games on it than DS games. Fire Pro A FTW! but if you like strategy games have a gander at Advance Wars either the GBA version or the sequel on the DS :)

No, but even if you like Zeldas, and get a DS, you get Zelda Minish Cap, Zelda Link to the Past, and on the DS itself, you get Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, and for the Mario Side, on DS you get New Super Mario Brothers, which is the coolest thing to happen to Mario in a long time.

I love mine. I've played through the Castlevania games many times. Elite Beat Agents was another good game.....however frusterating it was. Mario Kart is a winner. There are so many good games that aren't RPGs.

I haven't touched my DS in months, but if you haven't played any of the games yet there's good stuff to be had.

    September 15th.

Anyways, the DS is most certainly worth it, much moreso than the PSP, IMO. Having already read you're not into RPGs, some other real gems (at least that I've played) are:

    -NEW Super Mario Bros.
-The first Transformers Movie DS games (NOT RoTF)
    -Mario Party DS
    -Mario Kart DS
    -Diddy Kong Racing DS
    -Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
-Mario vs Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis
    -Yoshi's Island DS
    -Super Mario 64 DS
    -Kirby Canvas Curse
    -Sonic Rush
    -Sonic Rush Adventure

And I have several more lined up, like Retro Game Challenge, Kirby Squeak Squad, and *ahem*SuperPrincessPeach*ahem* that I've heard good things about.

To each his own I guess. When my PSP got stolen 2 years ago, I took t he insurance money to buy 2 DS, one for the wife and one for me. While I certainely enjoyed games like Contra 4, New Super Mario Bros and Ninja Gaiden, the majority of the other games were eithe graphically inferior or too childish for me.

The wife still plays with hers, but I recently sold mine to get another PSP.

Both handelds have their fair share of good games IMO. If I get the urge to play some DS games, I can still use the wife's one, but as of late, the PSP gets more play time.

retro game challenge is highly recommended by me if you like nes style games, only new.
as for mario, you've got new smb which is a winner, and there's always mario 64.
phantom hourglass was a good game if you don't mind stylus controls.
if you like square rpgs there's ff4 and chrono trigger which i would highly recommend.

any of those should keep you for a 14 hour flight easily.

you'll need another battery as well! 14 hours is a long time... unless they let you charge on planes these days?

A well charged DS can last an age, I know mine does. Then again I rarely play for longer than an hour or two before shutting it off, but even doing that multiple times has lasted me a long ass time.
