Well, firstly, they WILL go, they haven't come out with their motion controller yet.

Secondly, it's optional. Key word there. They don't require you to use it in order to enjoy the system-- it's an add-on with games built specifically for it, like the Eye.

Still, if it's optional then it's not going to have as much work put into it, nor will it sell as many units, nor will it have as many innovative games attempting to make use of it. If you make something a universal object- a console controller AND motion controller, you allow developers to implement it into the game whichever way they want as well as making them feel obligated to do so.

But the DS is a great selling handheld- far better than the PSP. Its hardware is easily accessible, it has impressive graphics, and while it sports touch screen capabilities, its ability to transition action between the two screens is the more impressive feature. I feel Nintendo wouldn't move on to a new type of handheld, or console, for that matter, if they weren't confident in the abilities and/or potential of the new system.

That's how I feel. When I was a kid I always was a fan of Sega and Nintendo. But the Super Nintendo was the last console I really wanted.

Then came Sony with the PlayStation...

Eh, I'll wait until there's a game that I want to play on it before upgrading.

    Though backwards compatibility is great.

Still, it all sounds too gimmicky. Call me old fashioned, but I was happy when it was 2D platform jumping and top down birds eye view.

I'm terrible with words but here goes:

I'm very scared about the whole 3D thing, be it in movies and games. I feel that instead of investing time to create a good story, or captivating gameplay they will rely on the making the most of 3D to sell the game.

Like the Nintendo Wii, personally so many games have in essence being ruined due to all the time by developers being spent trying to make the controls work that all other aspects are forgotten about or neglected. The "gimmick" usually comes accross as a hindrance rather than something beneficial, yet any good gimmick is implemented so well that it seems seemless and doesn't take anything away. I'm unsure what lies ahead with this new technology.

That explains the miriad of crappy broken wii games out there. I've never had to look at reviews for games I'm interested as much as I had with my Wii. Too many promising titles end up scoring horribly because of control issues. I'll stick to optional.

But this DS has me definitely interested.

For claiming you're not good with words, you nailed it. I wouldn't worry about 3D as the same type of gimmick as waggle. 3D is just a visual elements, and might enhance immersion, but it's not a control element or something that might hinder enjoyment because developers are forced to incorporate it. We're already used to games moving in 3D, now we'll just see them that way.

Considering the success of the previous gameboys, I think the DS would have succeeded without the dual screen. I still hate playing Zelda with a pen, and I stopped supporting my favorite franchise because of that gimmick move. I don't represent the majority, obviously, but Zelda would have sold just as many copies had it been on a single screen NEW gameboy.

I thought the dual screen and touch screen were its selling point, as by that point the Gameboy Advance/SP while selling well wern't as popular as the DS turned out to be. So it certainly did something right.

Considering they shelved the "true successor" to the Gameboy after the DS exploded, yes, they did something right.

I get where you're coming from and I'm in agreement.

Ugh, yes the stylus control is certainly not how I want to play a Zelda title. Again it comes down to Nintendo opting to remove any other play options in focus of pushing the "gimmick" that I have an issue with. It baffles me that Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS) has both stylus and D-Pad/Button controls yet they don't have the same set up in Zelda.

Since 3D will require you hand not being in front of the image, I'm hoping the next Zelda 3DS will be traditional controls. I'm definitely stoked about this little thing.

So did I read correctly? Gamecube power?

Coming down from Crystal sucks, regular Amphetamines are much better to use.
