How could you possibly make a brand new portable system anyway? Unless they go VR for the next portable 3D is pretty much the maximum gadget to attract new buyers. I don't see Nintendo making a new hand held version of the Switch any time soon, I suspect the 3DS will be the final NEW portable Nintendo ever chooses to make. I could be wrong of course, but time will tell.

Without a big new idea nobody has thought of, they still have the old "incremental improvement" route. The CPU and RAM could be improved. The screen resolution isn't great. The camera nub could be improved vastly. And so on.

Like a portable equivalent to seventh generation consoles (PS3, Xbox 360) and Wii U with a higher resolution 3D screen, multi touch screen and backwards compatibility to the 3DS.

Yeah, exactly like that. It's not the most "Nintendo" thing to do, but they've sometimes gone that route in the past.

That would be cool but with 3D capabilities at HD the hardware needs to be really strong. To the point where it would utilize the same hardware specs as a Switch.

Just bought DQ VIII. One of the few games I really wanted to finish. Maybe now I can since it's now portable.

Maybe a newer 3DS could be sub HD or 720p,
A lot of games on the seventh gen systems and Wii U were 720p, the current gen is barely full HD.
Would probably still be a tall order though.

Yeah, it definitely doesn't need to be full HD, especially at that size, and even more especially in 3D mode. Just a small resolution increase would go a long way if the hardware uses better antialiasing. Your brain will "improve" the resolution by combining the detail from each image. It's built into how our stereoscopic depth perception works.

One thing I would want to see is both upper and lower screen be the same size.

Haven't been able to find a definitive answer to this yet, so I figured I would ask it here. Has there been any confirmation on whether or not the 2DS XL will be able to play SNES VC games?

Is it the "NEW" 2DS XL (Which I think it is), then yes.

You mean the new one? The one that just came out in Australia? If it's running on the 'new' operating system that allows games like Xenoblade, then yes; Virtual Console for SNES is a thing. There would logically be no difference.

There's... only one kind of 2DS XL...
As far as I know it's running the same operating system as the New 3DS XL, so yep, should have no problem with the SNES VC titles.

Production Has Ended On The Small New Nintendo 3DS

since there wont be anymore of these...and the XL being the only one, will the current "new" Nintendo 3DS XL become the "new new" Nintendo 3DS lol

luckly i picked up mines a while ago, still a better fit for my hands than the XL.

It's a shame, since I like the smaller one for the higher pixel density. But I guess the larger one was selling better.

And for everyone one who was asking how Nintendo could keep making multiple models of 3DS at the same time as the Switch, but somehow didn't have the resources to make enough NES Classics... well there you go. Looks like they couldn't. Happy now?

Not particularly. I kinda like the smaller model. I actually find it more comfortable.

Quick question though; are capture cards easier to come by for the XL or the regular? I hear that a lot of them are faulty.

If your on an earlier firmware, I'd just use a hack for screen recording than a capture card.

Not on earlier firmware, and even if I was I wouldn't want to hack mine.

After all this time, I finally bit the bullet with some extra dollars in my pocket and snagged the old 2DS for $80, since it comes pre-programmed with MK7. Not bad but my hands hurt after an hour or so of playing it and I've found I REALLY have to push down hard on the left shoulder button in order to drag the items behind me or else I let them go.

But I also picked up Mario Maker. Got tired of making courses and none of my friends would play them because they either don't have the game or aren't playing courses online via their friends list. So now I can take the courses to them. HA!

I spent a whole 14 hour plane ride trying to make the ultimate level and complete it. Well, I say 14, but 6 hours were spent asleep.

Shame they never added an upload function. Guess a Switch port is my best bet if they make one, as there's no chance in hell I'm getting a Wii U.
