I say Nicki's on the wrong side. It's an opinion, everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

Well at this point, I'm pretty much just glad to hear the name "Funkmaster Flex" being mentioned somewhere other than an obituary.

Oddly enough just this morning I heard starships for the first time and thought to myself when did Nicki start doing popy dance stuff? Musicians should have a thicker skin as not everything they do will appeal to everyone.

That being said, I think the DJ's comments were a bit harsh. Especially towards the headlining act of a concert he was promoting. Industry politics? Yes. It's not good business to down talk your business partner.

Funk Flex, and his camp, can say whatever they want about Minaj, and they'd be right/justified because Flex comes from a time when Rap/Hip-Hop was alive and vibrant. Minaj, and just about everything out today (Drake, Lil' Wayne, WTF?) is crap and rap is pretty much dead to me.

I agree with that. I can't stand to listen to new hip hop, mostly new music period these days. I will listen to vintage music though.

Minaj gets more crap from a lot of other people, and many would say rightfully so. Personally, I don't think either of them (funk master what's his name or Minaj) are wrong, but Minaj's boyfriend might have issues, and given the situation both sides went too far.

    That said, when you put
    *motherf***ers*
in a song, you deserve all the negative reviews of said song. Pop music may be an industry that's edgy, but that doesn't mean there aren't limits, no matter how relaxed they may be. Edit: normally I like my fair share of vulgarity (it helps take away from the seriousness of life), but with Minaj, it's just the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Starships...you can say what you want about it, but objectively on the chorus is a even somewhat musical. The rest of it I can't make out the words to and that means it's not a song, it's a jumbled mess to my ear. And my hearing isn't too bad as far as I know.

And I still can't get into this new music. It's just so much crap being spoken by someone wearing almost nothing, to the sounds of some half-broken instrument that sounds like its been made from duct tape and scrap wood.

Sounds like your issue is with rap and the un-censored language used in it's songs. I don't understand how that can be issue, since you'd only hear that language if you actually bought the music or have satellite radio. Standard radio and music videos are typically censored, unless it's different in Australia.

edit: oh hey, there's Kick-Master Flex! Nice to see you, Chris.

Honestly, I kinda like the song, but I think once you start making silly ass music (not like there's anything wrong with this), you should kinda expect silly ass & otherwise negative responses along with the positive ones. Actually, that should be expected regardless, as even people like Taylor Swift have their haters.

Flex had a right to diss that song, even if it a pretty tactless and unprofessional way of doing so, and Minaj's label had a right to pull out of the festival as a result, provided they were not bound by contract (or if they did not pay the penalty for breaking that contract), even if doing so seems petty and unprofessional.

    Why is this a thing?
