Not really a tech support question, but there doesn't seem to be an "Ask the Staff" forum, so I'll ask here.

What purpose do news credits actually serve?

Because, especially lately, I'm noticing people rushing off to the News forum to claim their credits, without paying attention to whether or not their "news" has already been posted or not. Often, a thread will go up, when one that's been going on for the entire day is right underneath it. It's just filling this place with clutter.

Especially since some people have the tendency to post in the TF Toy section as well, so you've often got 3 or 4 topics on the same manner junking the whole place up. Honestly, it gets a bit excessive. It's especially hard to keep track of discussions on subjects that span multiple threads because the mods aren't able to keep up with merging everything.

The purpose is a little reminder about who is bringing us news. It's kind of a public "Thank You" to those. to some people, news credits act as a point of pride, while others simply could not care less. It all depends on the person.

And the reason so many people rush to post news here isn't simply for news credits. It's because people like to share the info they find (or think they've found) with a larger audience. And be it for news credits, public adulation, or the satisfaction of knowing you've contributed, it makes people fell good. We're never going to dissuade that behavior, because, in the end, everyone benefits.
