It was a bad idea when Apple did it, and its an even worse idea for game controllers.

Well I've heard Sony would replace it free of charge now so that kinda helps.

Depends on the order its wired, if its usb port to controller to battery it should, but if its usb port to battery to controller it may not if the battery is completely dead.

The only real issue I see is say....10 years from now I wanna play my PS3. Oh noes, the batteries on the controller are bad. Do I have to hit ebay and pay a premium price for the controller? Or will Sony still fix em 10 years later?

It's just a bad idea to have batteries that aren't user replaceable. It's the one thing I hate about my Ipod. Like Devilzfan said, 10 years from now when the PS3 is no longer stocked and supported getting batteries for your now dead controller might be annoying at best.

About the while 10 years from now, i just realized....i wonder if that's why Nintendo had the Wavebird and Wii Remote use standard batteries. And YES, you know there'll still be people playing what will then be called old school (and most likely, people will still be playing the NES too)

Sony + Batteries = not so good right now.

and i forsee, the PS4 controller going with the boomarang controller but yet again gets lots of dislikes which then gets replaced with the SixAxiS 2 Controller...

so that's how Sony will get by with this one...use the same controller (or almost the same) for the next 10 systems.

I can't fathom why they wouldn't just go with a setup like the 360 has, with the option of either using a battery "holder" that can hold 2 AA batteries or a removeable rechargable battery. It makes replacement easy, and solves the problems of the rechargable battery breaking long after the system is no longer supported.

cause like what they said about the "feedback system" on the PS3 controller, it would get in the way and would cause issues with the "motion-sensing system"

but truthfully, i dont know if there's space in that small controller for 2x AA battaries (the 360 controller is kinda huge and the Wii Remote is like every other remote)

Would it even HURT Sony to try a different design for their controllers? It's the same damn Playstation Dualshock Controller that's been used on PS1, PS2, and now PS3 (only with some SLIGHT changes). I'd rather use the boomerang controller and be happy with it.

And as for a Playstation 4, I wouldn't jump to conclusions. For all we know, Sony might heed my words in this post and actually do the Boomerang controller for the PS4. But, that won't happen for probably another five years or so.

Yeah, I can see how it would indeed be difficult to stuff 2 batteries in there, but I'm sure there's some solution that could have been reached that could have at least allowed commercially available rechargeable battery packs to be used, rather than proprietary ones that the user can't change anyway.

I know, but it puts me one step closer to an early grave, so I'm good with it.
