12/4/08: Couple of pics showing the basics of the mechanism. This will allow the doors to be posed in different manners, hopefully preventing Soundwave from wearing a truck cab on his back. 12/3/08: Quick update, pictures will come soon! The door issue has been solved! 10/28/08: Well, I picked up an Offroad Ironhide back in the Winter for $7 on clearance. I really didn't want him, but was too good a deal to pass up. He had set on the shelf in truck mode for nearly a year when I finally picked him up to play with him a bit. Upon seeing that blue truck in bot mode, inspiration hit. Let me know what you guys think so far, and any suggestions you may have. New pics uploaded, reflecting "new" neck and his little friend 10/27: And another update. Taking several cues from Kouri, Soundwave has taken on a "slightly" different 'bot mode. I like the appearance of the closed-up hood, and the fact that it can tilt down and become a hiding place for a minion or a bag of Cheetos is nice too. Flipping his lower legs around alleviated the issue of him facing the wrong direction, and doesn't look half-bad(another way to differentiate him from Ironhide IMO).
I intended to build-up the neck to fill that gap, then I tried to transform him back to truck and found clearance issues. I fixed the problem, will post pics shortly.
Good call... this mold in blue fairly screams Soundwave...! I wish I could remember who did it, but someone here has done a Soundwave mod for this mold that works pretty well. The chest becomes one boxy front, instead of splitting in half... also I think he was redesigning the back cab area so it transforms into Laserbeak. A forum search might turn it up, and you might get some ideas there. zmog
You're talking about the Soundwave custom made by Kouri. Yep that is a good example of that. BrokenSVT- Now thats better. Good job.
Glad someone finally decided to turn another Ironhide into 'Wave. I'm curious to see how you mounted that one shoulder cannon, though. Oh, and if you're curious: http://www.tfw2005.com/radicons-cus...verse-soundwave-wip-02-more-cassettes-165858/ I still need to do a bit more sculpting and finish up the chrome weapons, but once I nab the cassette pegs off of 25th Ani Hound, I think he'll be ready for paint. ^^
Hah, that's great Kouri! I do like the appearance of the closed-up chest/hood, but really don't want to get that deep into customizing this silly thing. I think I'll be content with some serious paintwork and the updated head/cannon. I may figure out a more simple method of closing the chest, without it tipping down out of the way.
I like to say I apologize for that first post it did sound kinda harsh. So sorry for that, but your Soundwave does look good.
VERY NICE! i like it alot the new neck looks wayy better, i would shorten down the missles soo his weapon looks more soundwave, anyplans to incorporate Booster X(Lazerbeak) into the Transformation?
I updated him completely, taking cues from Kouri's great model. I really like the look of him this way. I'll try to take shots of his boxy backpack later as well.
Cybertron head was always way too movie to work on that Universe Blaster version. You didn't really need a new head though, right? just rotate the head 180 degrees :-D.
Yeh, but I didn't realize the likeness on the back on 'hide's head until well after this project started rolling. Even if I had, I prefer his current arrangement better.
This is so awesome, yet everybody absolutely DESPISES the idea of Soundwave as a truck for the movie. Awesome work, man.
Thanks, I agree with your sentiment. I can't wait to find the time to slap a bit of paint on him. A little gold here, some red there, a bit of grey with silver drybrushing... Oh, and some clear followed by some "real" mud on the quarter panels.
Quick update on this guy, sans pictures. I've come up with an elegant way to mount his doors in 'bot mode. I'll try to snag pictures later on, when the super glue fumes clear!
