It is released by Al. It is called "Don't Download this Song" and it makes fun of MP3 sites like KaZaA and the RIAA.

Can anyone tell me if this is a parody and if so what is it a parody of...

    That's great :lol

    I don't think it's a parody, but I could be mistaken.

He's commented that his career has lasted longer than that of most of the people he's ever parodied.

Brilliant. As soon as Straight Outta Lynwood comes out, I'm making a music video for one of the songs.

Word. His live shows are so much fun. A good friend of mine and I went to one up in Indiana and we were so enthralled that we spent the next week playing Weird Al songs on our radio show.

'Don't Download This Song' is what's termed by Al fans a 'style parody.' It's in the same style as songs such as 'We Are The World,' but the melody and lyrics are wholly Al's. 'Straight Outta Lynwood' will come out September 26th, and the video for the first single ('White n' Nerdy', a parody of Chamillionaire's 'Ridin' ') just filmed, and will hopefully be read by the time the album comes out, so Al can get his appearances on MTV and such. Here's hoping he also gets to do Letterman and Conan...and maybe the Daily Show.

Oddly enough, I just googled 'White n' Nerdy,' and got links to...my own posts. Weird.

    <looks at avatar> Yup...I'm a fan.

Oh yeah, Weird Al does the greatest live shows I've ever seen. Costumes and everything. He did 'Like a Surgeon' in hospital greens, then went backstage for, like, thirty seconds and came back out in the full 'Fat' suit and makeup. It was insane.
