Actually Venom looking like a military version of Spiderman makes sense when you realize who the new host is. He's a looooooooonnnnnnggggg time fan.

The design is different, but I think its more black ops, in which is cool.

As a big Venom fan, I have to admit that it's going to take some time getting used to, but in the end, that's not that bad of a design. It's just not really screaming "Venom" to me...yet. Looks more like they crossed black-suited Spidey with the Punisher.

On one hand it's actually an interesting take on the character. Venom has always treaded the line between hero and villain and his motives change based on his host (Eddie Brock made him an Anti-Hero, Mac Gargan made him a monsterous psychopath, etc.) so seeing his host be a soldier working for the military will be interesting. On the other hand......it is a pretty sudden change for the character, one that no one can will take on the spot.

It's gonna need to rely on a well written, strong story to grab the attention of readers.

If it's not a big psychotic dude named Eddie Brock it's not Venom as far as I'm concerned (which means nothing of course since I haven't bought a comic since 1998)

    Same here.

Gotta love the drama in this thread..lol

I was never into Marvel, but the idea of a black ops soldier with a symbyote might attract me.

I think that's a fairly clever idea for Venom, makes him feel a lot less "90's".

With Rick Remender writing it can't be bad and I kinda like the new design. I'm sure he will "hulk out" and start eating brains during the story line at some point.

I doubt it considering the host is a good guy. Though I can see him constantly fighting with the symbiote. All the previous hosts hated spiderman, this one literally used to run the fan club. He wants to be just like spiderman. Oh and he used to date the Black Cat, but that could have changed with all the continuity crap from OMD.

so we got Venom as a Black Ops good guy, Toxin as a Police Officer good guy, and Anti-Venom as a anti-hero...wonder if the new Carnage will somehow end up a good guy (or girl in this case)

Wouldn't surprise me. Marvel has been doing a good job graying the line between their heroes and villans for years. They have ruined many of their best baddys trying to turn them into heros, who cares if they used to kill people and commit genocide.
