So I have the sticky problem with Prowl, too. He's managed to accumulate a little dirt already (which is how I noticed that it was sticky!). So two questions...

    1) What's the best way to clean him up before clearcoating him? I don't want to lock in the dirty look!

    2) What should I use for a clearcoat? Clear paint? Clear nailpolish? Very small brush? I have absolutely no experience with this kinda thing... hell, I can't even get the clear nailpolish on balljoints thing right. ;)

My Sunstreaker is perfect. Aside from a really really tiny chip in the plastic behind one of his headlights. Octane is also fine.

I've heard of some people complaining about how Octankor's arms look stubby, well doing this seems to do the trick at not making them look short.

I put clear paint with a small brush on my Prowl's doors to prevent the stickiness, which never occurred on mine. The clear paint gave the doors a glossy look. But I am not sure how to clean him up before putting the clear coat.

well, I picked up a spraycan of acryllic clearcote at walmart last night from the arts and crafts section, it's about $5.50 or so. I cleaned up prowl with a bit of warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush, then applied the cote. It doesn't look perfect as it did out of the box, but it's loads better than what it had become with the dirt and fingerprints.

Any confirmation on this, and any way to tell the difference? My current prowl's paint is just bad, and I think my only course of action is buying a new one. I would like to make sure my new one is better, though :p

I've had that same problem with other threads. I think it's a glitch in the forum software. But it's definitely not just you.

Hmm, I must take another look at Sunstreaker, as I did not know he required this. I had to do a castration on Animated Prowl... I felt guilty about doing it, but he looks WAY better now.

I wish mine was cleanable... too much paint has peeled off already. I mean, I could try it, but it will till be bleh.

But I think you just took the "Streaker" out of "Sunstreaker".

    Poor chap.

That's how I have my Tankor. Honestly, I think that's what the engineers had to have had in mind. Then, the photographers took a pic of it mistransformed and it just never got fixed and everyone went along with it. The arms still have a full range of movement and he looks about 3 times more aesthetically pleasing.

I used Tamiya "light gun metal" spray. Comes in small 100ml cans. The launchers just pop off at the base if you twist them, so it's pretty easy to do.

Gundamshop has a selection on Tamiya spray for a pretty good price. The guy Mike who runs the place is a pretty upstanding guy, I recommend checking them out.

Is there any way to identify a Prowl with the corrected paint before buying it, taking it home and opening it? The Prowl I found today finally has the sticky paint problem. The date code on the package is 80881.

there is no way to actually tell unless they figure out what lot/batch # they are.But one would think the newer ones have been corrected.
