I remember seeing a load of stuff on 'next gen' TV's and one of them was a TV the Japanese had put in a jacket... this must be it.

Which is why I'm waiting for a full on TV you can just unfurl down from the ceiling.

That is beyond kick-ass. I wonder how much it costs to produce that screen.

Awesome! Ive been hearing about technology like this for a long time now (described to me as "roll-up TV"), but this is the first time Ive seen something actually like it. Really cool.

Wonder how long until someone accidentially eats one.

In theory, it should be very cheap to mass-produce the screens themselves. It's a matrix of light emitting polymer sprayed on a printed circuit. The cost is going to come from R&D that went into developing just the right formula for the LEP, and this technology has been in development for almost a decade... so I expect these to be very expensive at first.

This will make the portable gaming industry and devices like I pods able to be smaller and thiner. If it doesn't take much battery power, it could improve battery life. Possibly more memory as well.

The downside to PLED displays is that they burn out quickly compared to other types of displays. Until that's fixed, I wouldn't want one in my portable game console.

Am I the only one to think this is another step closer to "invisible clothing"? Like, make sure the display is what is behind you, and it could be like Predator-like cloaking. Or sometihng.

I was watching a show that was talking about developing camo that used 360 degree camera systems and flexible screen material to turn "invisible". I don't think it will ever be a 100% disappearing act, but something on that level can surely provide a great advantage. Just need to see if the cost outweighs the benefit.

You could stick it on the back seat of a car, or in a drawer at the office!

I hope they make T-shirts with these, so I can buy myself one and walk around like a teletubbie displaying porn all day long.
