Bay didn't make Bumblebee popular. Bay put Bumblebee in the position Bumblebee's always been in. It's the audience and consumers that made him popular.

 

That's kinda what I'm thinking as well.
It's funny to me how some people seemed to have completely disregard the preview image we got of Bee's character design, and still think the new show is either tied into WFC or some other new re-imagining of G1.

I also don't think this synopsis of the tie-in book is suggesting that the show starts out with the death of Optimus. I'd be really surprised if they did that.

 

Hum, I also find it interesting that both the War for Cybertron game and Transformers Prime would both be set before the events of other series.

On the bright side perhaps this means that Transformers Prime is it's own thing and not bound by the rules of anything else.

 

Sounds prequelly to me, as in, a lead in to Prime the show.

 

Nice, it sorta follows the WFC story.

 

That storyline does sound fun - something similar to the game but probably not exactly. I like it!

 

I'm calling it...Bumblebee will become "Bee-imus Prime"  

 

So Bumblebee is like looking for Optimus all the time and some time later he finds him in a library or somewhere and asks him "Sorry sir, would you mind becoming our leader?" Optimus checking his internal chronometer answers "Well, I need to work through all these records, but I guess I have some time for ya. OK, now what am I supposed to do?"

I know that, dude. I'm just saying it's idiotic if you're blaming Bay for making BB popular. He's always been a central character since Transformers started. If you don't like, then like you said, take it up with the audience.

 

Ofcourse it's not, but besides the "War Dawn" episode in G1 none of the shows have gone in depth with the concept. Only the comics have.

Animated came close but even then he was still refered to as Optimus Prime.

 

IMHO, War Dawn told you everything you need to know, if the G1 cartoon is your canon.

My original point was that they, Hasbro, and we, the fans, are acting like OMG THIS IS NEW GROUND, THIS STORY HAS NEVER BEEN TOLD BEFORE! when in fact it has, many times over.

Personally, I would prefer to see a little more originality. But it looks like we're going to yet again get the same "Here come Big Bad, Autobots must stop Big Bad, Here come Big Good, Him fight Big Bad, Now let's go to Earth," sort of thing. I'm fine with that in the movie-verse, because IMHO it works there. For a new cartoon, I'd really like to see them break new ground and take it some other direction, instead of re-inventing the wheel again.

 

Well I just got a lot more interested in Transformers: Prime. Of course they kind of make it sound like Bumblebee's a temporary leader until, hopefully Optimus comes in.

 

The plot for Transformers Prime is almost like Wolverine and the X-men. Optimus Prime(Prof.X) has gone missing and it requires BB (Wolverine) to take command and lead the Autobots (X-men) againist the evil decepticons (Magneto/Mr.Sinister/MRD/Apocolypse).

Eh, It's not as intersting, I thought it would be Autobots/Next vs Decepticons or a prequel to the movie series.

 

This sounds interesting. But I will reserve judgement until I see it.
