Hi guys. I always been a Transformers fan since my childhood. Last year I watched the movie and I said to myself: "I MUST MODEL A TRANSFORMER of my own."

So I came up with this.

This is a robot from The Decepticons. His name is RUCKUS :)

Modelled with 3ds max in 4 days.

Wow, that is ridiculously complex. Almost too much so. Seems like there is stuff just thrown in there. I also don't think I like the head.

That being said, that may be one of the best lighting/material set ups I have ever seen. This looks so realistic it's scary. If I didn't know better I would say it's professional photos of a toy.

I would love to know how you lit the scene, what materials you used, and what renderer you used.

Thank you very much fort he critics man. I will model another transformer soon and I will concern your critics when I model it.

Here are the INFOS for this render:

I used only 2 v-ray lights in the scene.

    Here how I positioned them:

Here is the setup of v-ray light in the right of the scene when looking from top viewport

And Here is the setup of v-ray light in the left of the scene when looking from top viewport

Yeah, that's way too thrown together. If you look at the movie bots, all their stuff is neatly packed away under interlocking armour made from their vehicle modes, with this he just has everything pouring out of his belly while he has giant intact peices of vehicle mode over him. Not very eye-pleasing. If I were you I'd either put more armoured bits on his stomach and shins, or break up the vehicle mode front peices and distribute them down the stomach like a shell.

The head rocks IMO. I like how it almost looks like he has an exposed brain or something like Rattrap did. That turned out great.

Thank you for your suggestions and critics.

When I decided to model the robot; I have 2 options in my mind.

    1) Not modelling a too complex robot but only modelling with more pieces.

    2) Making it look very complex as crazy.

So I decided to choose the second option.I want it to be seen very complex and very hard to analyze by the people in terms of details. And from what ı read of your comments it looks like I succeded it :) ))

I will model another transformer and this time I will model it less complex and easier to analyze ;) )

Well, I actually like the stage of complexity, but that's just my opinion.
But his head... hm... a bit weird
    Nevertheless:
-> The details are really awesome and yes, the light-effects are great.
I'm lookin' forward to your new project.  Keep it up! :thumb

Thank you very much mate. ı really understand that the head is not good :) )) Because most of people said that.

When I model the next transformer, I will really work more on the head...

He does look more thrown together than the Bayformers did. If you cut back on some of the thrown together bits, it'll clean him up a bit.
If your materials were a little more realistic too, I think that would help. But still that's pretty impressive for just four days. I'm guessing he's not rigged or anything.

No matei I did not rigged him. Actually I did not dare it :) )
Even with this polygon number my notebook is slowing down. I think if I eve try to animate him, it would take days to render a second. :) )

is V-Ray a plugin, or is that something that comes standard with Max. I've never used it.

    //lurker mode off

Vray is a render system like mental ray. It does not come with MAX as standard but it is one of the better renderers out there today. And totally integrated into Max. http://www.vray.info/

Yeah, in my opinion; V-RAY is the best renderer to get realistic results
