Does anyone ever have that instance when you first open a toy and it feels...slippery, for a while? Eventually, it goes away, but some toys when I first open them they feel slippery or "oily" in my hands. Today in the mail, I got Hasbro's 10th Waspinator and Takara's 10th Dinobot. Waspinator seemed normal, but Dinobot felt oily.

Is this because of the kind of plastic, or paint applications, or what?

IIRC, it's the oil residue from the mold used to cast the parts. It's perfectly normal; most new TFs have some.

Mold releasing agent. It's the plastic mold equivalent of spraying Crisco onto a waffle iron to keep it from sticking.

Every TF fan is given an imaginary rank and it goes up with time and zeal, at the proper level a TF fan is given an ancient scroll that tells you the ins and outs of everything related to Transformers.

And on a slightly related note, is the soft look on some TFs, ie Classics Bumblebee and Jetfire, due to the paint or plastic?

I really like the oily feeling. I've mostly noticed it in my Japanese toys though - BT Tracks and Dead End, ML Hot Rod... less so with my American toys. Usually.

I thought they got those from your birth certificate.

I would but I daydream too much in class and I just end up pretending my pen is a rocket ship.

That's a fairly new practice in some places. My certificate is from Washington state, and they didn't do that there 25 years ago.
