Now, here's my question. In the past, doesn't the online Legends manga generally precede a Legends release of some sort? They just don't do these out of the blue, right?

 

I'm just as stoked about the Targetmasters as y'all are (and I could absolutely live with those three molds, were it to come to pass) but goddamn is all the Car Robots in this issue tugging at my heartstrings. I know none of these are gonna happen, but if there were suddenly a TTMall set of like Brave Max and the Car Brothers I would probably never stop smiling.

 

It would make sense to make the 1987 Autobot Targetmasters headmasters as well, to match up with the Decepticon Targetmasters that were already done for Titans Return/Legends.

What a gloriously convoluted canonical mess. It’s a shame IDW never collected these in a prestige format. I’d buy it in a cinch!!

I’ll believe it when we also get the Bludgeon from Hardhead and BW Soundwave from Mindwipe.

So unless we see them in the plastic flesh, I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

They have nothing to do with IDW

 

Give them time and wait for it to finish it's run entirely, but we might see it officially translated and released as a collector book later.

IDW is the official American publisher for anything Transformers. It doesn’t have to be tied to IDW continuity to be collected and published by IDW.

G-1 vs. Star Trek and retro GI-Joe vs. Transformers has nothing to do with IDW canon either, but they still happened.
Neither did Animated Almanac, the collected G1 package art books or the G1 Ark either, but they still got published.

I would LOVE a translated and collected physical release of all the Legends comics...

 

In regards to Brave Maximus, I wouldn't count him out as an exclusive just yet. Grand Maximus proved a titan class exclusive will sell AND Car Robots is only a year and a half out for its 20th anniversary. It wouldn't be too out of bounds if this time next year there's not a pre-order set up for a 2020 release.

 

True, takara seems to be fond of car robot, with unite warrior Baldi Gus, 2 lg ex black convoy and god fire convoy reissue.
Linking skids to the squad is a nice touch as well.

And while the « bunch of repainted » could be just the « author having fun », takara usually release these online comics prior to a toy announcement.
Perhaps it is just for the lgex monster bots
(With a tiny black Zarak repaint with grotesque) or they are planning something.

And usually, the last panel is the cliffhanger announcing the next wave- I rememmber an online comic finishing with the small target master dudes before toys were announced

 

Yup, the comic is usually used to preview exclusives for at some point. Like hinting at what TakTom mall may get later.
So I wouldn't be surprised if these 3 ended up as a future TakTom Mall exclusive. Which with Crosshairs having different head designs, means they'll get their anime one, and a later line could still do the original G1 toon one or commercial styled one on the same body with the other 2 hopefully as new molds in a brand unified release.

But as recolors go, I could see Takara doing them as Tak Tom mall things, with then Hasbro releasing 2 of them as a future walgreens exclusive box set, and then after WFC3 they do the new ones with the Commercial G1 toon version of Crosshairs from Kup. Unless the new special sets do really well, then we might get them that way instead of waiting until after WFC3, but timed far enough away from the TakTom mall one or Walgreens 2-pack to make sure to not bite into those sale numbers.

I don't see Hasbro releasing TTMall exclusives at all. I can't think of any precedent for that (there's been the opposite, though, where Hasbro retail has shown up as TTMall exclusives as "U.S.-style", IIRC).

If anything, Hasbro will wait and release their own original molds of the Targetmasters down the road. If Hasbro uses P/CP as a pre-tool for Counterpoint in the next year or so, that would explain why they might say no to Takara doing it first in an EX set. Instead, old Titans Return molds are fair game.

 

If I'm honest, I hope to god that we don't get these figures over here, I'd rather get stuff from the new molds in WFC. Like that Pointblank looks terrible, and the other two look decent. There's just molds that fit the characters better in WFC already.
