they use adults in the ad to reassure anyone younger that they're not too old for them. If they'd used 11 year olds in the ad, no one above that age would buy them.

I guess they're aware that people might feel stupid wearing them, so they're going out of their way to try to portray it as a fun thing for well-adjusted people with a sense of humour to do. It's not gonna work on me, but it's a pretty sharp strategy.

That's a good point. The same way most pre-teen programming features lead characters in high school. It's about presenting role models of a sort to aid in fantasy empowerment.

The sharper strategy would have been to avoid marketing dorky 3D glasses that people might feel stupid in.  

I like the way that this ad characterizes regular 3D glasses as somehow sleazy. Or maybe that guy's just pretending he's in The Matrix?

Something that came to mind. We are sitting here thinking all the adults are gonna be embarassed? What about the kids? The kids are gonna be embarassed that their parents are wanting to wear these masks, or that they will see all these random adults with them on, but the kids don't?!
