So a new PopSci Issue arrived in the mail (Jan 2011), and I immediately noticed the similarities between the cover pic and fan art of TFTM Ravage I saw a couple years back...

I think these look quite similar, even if it is just a coincidence...

It also kinda looks like ROTF Ravage, in the fact that it has Machine gun(s)/rockets on it's back, and the tail also bears a little resemblance to ROTF Ravage's spiked tail

well it's obviously inspired by some incarnation of Ravage.

The pose is similar to the fanart, but that's about it. It's basically a cliché 'crouching tiger' type pose which they could've found in a variety of places. Other than that, the actual robotic big cat design doesn't have much in common.

I suspect they did rip it off though. If they'd actually looked at some primary reference of big cats, they would've probably come up with a far more dynamic pose.

The design itself has more in common with ROTF Ravage.

Should have went with a robotic Velociraptor, but that's just me.

It does look like someone took G1 Ravage and modernized the design a bit. Looks like it could fit right in with the TF: Prime characters. Has the same aesthetic.

Looks kinda like one of the lions from Voltron now that I think of it :lol

Or you know, it's based on a cat...

I might be willing to believe they're both based on the same picture of a cat but I doubt there's any theft going on. Cats just tend to have that pose.

I think it looks more like ROTF Ravage then the fanart, what with the cannons and tail, but it's definetly based off of Ravage in one form or another. To be frank, they're both kind of...cute.

I noticed the EXACT SAME THING! I saw that cover in the airport yesterday.

I was debating saying "In before someone compares this more favorably to the movie version", but decided against it. Then again, I suppose the point is now somewhat moot.

Aw man, I want to see this. My issue is in the mailbox, but I forgot to bring it in, and I don't want to go back out in the ice. :D  There's always tomorrow.

I think they took some idea from Ravage.

Yeah, I pointed that out to my friend at the library today.
Then he took a trading card from the new Shonen Jump.
