While I was on RT I've found this intresting article concerning the famous sailor.

The Powerpuff Girls director to make Popeye in 3D — RT

Sounds pretty intresting. However its screenplay is written by the guy who did The Smurfs. Though I'm certain that Genndy will make sure it won't be too much like the Smurfs. I'm hoping that it'll at least be on the same levels of respect for thr source meterial of an old comic like TinTin.

    What are your thoughts?

I hope this turns up as a CG film with the same animation style used in Tin Tin instead of live-action.
I just can't see a live-action film happening during these times.

If they announce that it'll be a CG film, then I'll be a bit excited. Right now, I'm waiting for more news.

EDIT: Never notice it would be CG until now. I feel dumb.

Will this have Robin Williams in it? Because if it doesn't..........I'll be happy.

My big question is, can you have Popeye be as violent as he once was in this day and age?

Well they're able to make the tone of Tintin just like the comics in his film. So if they play it right it'll be the same for Popeye. I mean it's not like He's carrying a gun or a machette. :lol

He just beats the crap out of people. Worked for Asterix and Obelix.

I don't believe Genndy Tartokovsky has ever done anything I didn't like, so I have faith it will be a fantastic movie.

Oh man, a new Asterix movie would kick ass.

Say what you will about the Popeye movie from back when, but it was awesome in my book.

I wonder what project Genndy will bail on this for. The man just can't finish anything.

Genndy is a good director but i'm not liking the part where the screen play is done by the same guy who made the Smurfs.

I love Genndy's stuff, but I've never really been a fan of Popeye.
Even when I was a kid.

I don't mean to call you out or anything, this isn't aimed at you specifically, but I see comments like this all the time and I never understand them.

Cartoons these days are far more violent than they have ever been.
I see people say things like 'they'll never get away with...' as if we don't have Transformers cartoons where a character was gutted in the first episode, or Thundercats cartoons where an entire kingdom of Thundercats was destroyed in the first episodes, or the first Avatar cartoon where the Fire Nation systematically performed genocide on the Air Nation.

That's a whole lot of inferred violence. We don't see lizards lining cats up in the streets and executing them, or firebenders burning the air nomads to death.

And any violence against robots is infinitely more accepted than violence against people.

Popeye beats the shit out of people. That's his thing. He violently and creatively dismantles people.

Of course there wasn't. Nor did there need to be.
However the genocide of the Air Nomads was a major topic of Avatar the Last Airbender and it had real effects on the characters.

Thundercats may not have had bodies lined up in the streets, but it had a real body count. Not the least of which was King Claudus who was murdered on screen.

I have no idea what the poster is trying to do with his 'Fan dub' but watch this.
    No robots, no aliens.
A gun point blank at a human's face with a finger shaking on the trigger.
A light saber stabbed right through a human being's torso.
Satine and Obi-Wan fandub ready (with Anakin) - YouTube

    Sure -in a cartoon style.
Which is still going on in cartoons today.

Another one I hear sometimes is that they don't show Road Runner on TV anymore because it's 'too violent'.
    As if this doesn't exist.

The Looney Tunes Show: Silent But Deadly - YouTube

I'm certain that 'Popeye Violence' will be no problem today.
