Second ‘Monsters’ Trailer Ups the Anticipation - Screen Rant This looks really interesting. I might check it out.
This movie got me thinking: what will be its name here in South America? You see, "Monster" was the name given to "Cloverfield" when it got released. I am thinking that if the title "Monsters" remains, some dumb critics may treat it as a Cloverfield sequel. ^^
Interesting, not sure if I'll wait to see it in theaters might just download it instead. Looks promising.
This film comes out soon. time to resurrect the thread. MILD SPOILERS I was (un)fortunate enough to see this at a screening. The film is not bad, it's that it's kinda just there. There is zero tension throughout the film. None. The filmmakers put the two leads in one of the most horrible situation imaginable, and then said let's make it as easy as possible for them to get from point A to point B. There is a single scene in the middle of the flick where things look to be picking up. But less than 3 minutes later, the two are basically just relaxing and bullshitting about inconsequential nonsense. Really, if you're going through an "infected" zone where there are (supposedly) hundreds, if not thousands, of alien monsters, you'd think this was not a safe place to be. But 90% of the trip is spent chillin' with some super friendly mercenaries, guides and slightly glowing trees. And by chillin', I mean relaxing on a boat, napping in the middle of an infested area, and never once taking cover in an attempt to hide from the monsters. for a movie called Monsters, there's barely a creature to be found. I'm talking less than half the a third of the screen time of the Cloverfield creature. Best way to describe this flick was boring with a side of cliche. I do not understand any of the praise for such a poorly constructed film.
Dude, I was PSYCHED to see this movie. Giant monster movies are third in line for me. Behind only zombie films and The Thing. On a technical level, it's good. The film "looks" great for a budget of under $20,000 (rumors have it as low as $15,000). But the actual film has a mildly effective opening that is never again topped. There is never a sense of danger or tension throughout the film. There were so many spots where the film should have become a nail biter, but the writer and director always went with the cinematic path of least resistance. You never feel like the leads are in any real danger and everything is so...Empty. And that goes from the characters to the "world" that is created. There was just no sense of life, which is a shame, because the initial setup leading to the infected zone is done decently enough to be passable.
