The hair is rubbish and while I prefer the lightning bolt symbol, this costume is actually kind of nice.

Not impressed. I always liked Genis Vel as Cap Marvel. At least this way marvel can keep the license going with an established character

The new look looks like a cross between Wonder Woman and Powergirl rather than Carol Danvers to me. Not to say it's not a good look, but it just doesn't suit Carol...

Boy it seems Marvel's really trying to hit 3 birds with one stone here. Not only are they going to give Carol yet another series (what is it about her anyway?), but they'll now be able to maintain the Captain Marvel trademark with this ongoing, and probably setting up some sort of exposure for Miracleman/Marvelman with that costume.

So did anybody pick this up? I got it and Avenging Spider-Man #9 and liked 'em both quite a bit. I'm not sure the Dexter Soy art is a good fit, but I didn't mind it. The only thing that bothers me about the costume is the helmet. It makes her look like a 90's Image character, somehow. I like the look much better without it.

And the hair doesn't look nearly as bad as it did in the cover art. Somewhat mullet-ish when she's flying around in costume, but in her regular clothes it looked normal.

Ugh. Warbird with the flowing hair was better.

Not Cap. Marvel rip-off with a mullet.

So, I just read Captain Marvel #12 and had a bit of a geek-gasm at the final page's villain reveal. I've always felt one of the things holding Carol back from becoming a major well-known character is her lack of memorable villains. Everybody she fights is either some other character's villain or they get co-opted by some other heroes, like Mystique.

Also hoping this upcoming "Enemy Within" crossover raises Carol's popularity.

So, if you don't want to read the issue (and I can understand that with the current artist, it's... not great) and just want to know who the villain was, it's
Colonel Yon-Rogg, the commander of the Kree ship that brought the original Captain Mar-Vell to Earth way back in 1967 at met his (presumed) death in the explosion of the Psyche-Magnitron, the event that resulted in Carol gaining her super-powers in the first place
    . I dig it!

Actually, Mystique started out as a Captain Marvel villain. Her very first appearance was in his book. Besides that, she's also been tied to Carol specifically for years.

I've loved the Captain Marvel book and will definitely be picking up the relaunch. I'll also be giving the new Ms. Marvel a try. I might even cosplay Captain Marvel at my local Comiccon this year.
