I'm not sure if this has been reported before and I missed it, but this is news to me. This morning I was listening to an interview with comics writer Chuck Dixon on a podcast downloaded from John Siuntres' Wordballoon site and Chuck spilled some interesting news. He says he's working on a 4 issue Transformers series for IDW that features steam-driven Transformers back in the 1800's. The artist for the series is Ted McKeever.

Wow, sounds like an interesting idea. Reminds me of the medieval Megatron and Combaticons based on concepts by Da Vinci someone had in the Fan Art section. Who did those anyway?

Didn't Ben Yee had a fanfiction on his website that was based on the similiar idea, and even had Sherlock Holmes helping the TFs?

That's the greatest TF idea since a long while. I'll definately be checking it out.

ooooh... it's like Steampunk and Battle Chasers... I'm sure there's going to be a lot of "what the hell are they thinking?"s, but I love the idea...

if its Transformers, as we know them now, with the whole alien robot's from Cybertron thing. Disguising themselves as 19th century Earth manchinery. because thats whats arround Earth at the time they happen to be there: then I think it could be cool.

If OTOH its 'Steampunk Transformers' you can count me out.... its a fine desticintion but an important one (for me, at least)

too bad Don Fig isn't doing the artwork. He has an extreme talent for designing alternate vehicleTF modes

A name probably recognisable enough to draw in some non-TF fans, I believe is the thinking...

I'm hoping this will be more similar to LoEG/Hellboy than the G.I. Joe crossovers set in the past. Needs to have a premise more meaty than just redesigning some characters.

The Victorians were big on international threats, conspiracy theories and wacky science. There's plenty of potential there; enough that it doesn't need to get too anachronistic either in the ideas or the dialogue.

I'm with you...just reading about it gave me some hesitations, and you phrased it just like I was thinking. But if it's the former, and done with the Victorian elements like Denyer described, it could be pretty cool.

this sounds like it's got potential, and Chuck is a very solid writer who loves history, so i think this has a lot of potential.

    anyone know Ted McKeever's work?

Edit: oh, and you can check out Dixon's bibliography over at his site: http://www.dixonverse.net/

as much as i freakin love Don and want to have his babies, im really really REALLY interested to see what Ted McKeever can do [his stuff has a sort of Senior kinda feel to the heavy blacks and grittyness that i just adore]

judging by what samples he has on his website, this is definately going to be an interesting ride. I'm more excited about seeing what Ted McKeever will do than the premise of the story [as cool as it sounds mind you :D ]
