Head of Pontiac: Hello everyone! Today's meeting is to decide what our next vehicle is going to be. We could either revive a badass Trans Am/Firebird or produce a Fiero with a truck bed.

Fiero with truck bed it is!!

There was already a modern version of the El Camino, it was called the SSR

Sweet...I'm surprised I like it, but Caminos will always be in style. Is it a car? Is it a truck? i don't know!

Cool. While not an El Camino, it sure does a good job of an update for it. Yeah, the SSR was somewhat similar to the Camino, but, I think it resembled the older (50's ish?) trucks that had the parot like front ends. I can now add this to the "cars I want, but will probably never own" list.

The SSr was based on a pickup truck, not a car. Thats why it sold like crap, it accelerated, handled and was a fat pig like a truck. This is a full size car with a bed like the old El Camino was. I don't think it will sell well but it is meant to be low volume like the Holden Ute its based off of. I will have a G8 in the driveway as soon as I turn in the Acura TL on its lease. Then I will wait for the new Camaro, impatiently.

SSR has a POS heavy retro style Truck that you could not use unless you wanted to destroy the bed in the rear. The later ones at least had a engine for its weight but were still fugly as hell.

Easily fixed with a Holden HSV front end. All the models have the same front fenders and lights so its a simple swap. I plan on getting me some holden body kits for the G8.

I'm not impressed. This whole half-car, half-truck, thing is not for me.

If I had that I'd fill the back with speakers and drive around town with Ween's "El Camino" on repeat.

Hell, a Fiero would have been better. I like this thing and all but Mustangs are back, Camaros are coming next year, Challengers the same. Come on Pontiac, get in the game.
