How big are they? I'm surprised that the first ko's are only the larger figures. I was hoping that the vector prime would have more paint apps than the hasbro version just so I could laugh my head off.

Well, the three most obvious are

1: Lack of paint apps on some of them. Most notebly Crumplezone and Vector Prime.

2: Lack of transparent parts. Once again, mainly Crumplezone and Vector Prime.

3: The most blatantly obvious. None of those have ever been sold on boards. Those are always in boxes. No matter where you get them.

How much do you want to bet that VP's sword won't get all floppy like the real one?

There are some dead give-aways. Firstly is the packaging, which is not official Hasbro or Takara packaging. Second is that the colors on many of the figures is way, way off. They're missing paint applications and the plastic is of very poor quality.

They are packaged on cards - the real ones are packaged in boxes in vehicle mode, except for Flame Convoy who is in robot mode.

Plus they are more cheaply made ;)

    EDIT: Darn you, JM! :p

Just before I read your post I was thinking it might be worthwhile to get that toy just for the sword as it's probably a rigid one that won't bend. :D

I was wondering when these were going to show up.

I just picked up some Energon KOs that appear to be by the same company - based on the packaging.

And I can tell you that hauling a few of these around on those huge cards is a pain in the ass.

Actually I took his post as being insulting and cheeky on the quality of the real hasbro toys. EG: How could you tell they are knockoffs as the originals are just as crap. That's how I saw what he wrote. ;)

They actually look alright. I've seen a Dirtboss KO which looked fine, but the price was AU$18, while you can buy the real deal for $26 :lol

And this here folks is proof that collecters still need to be educated on the dangers of shopping. I hope this lad hasn't purchased a KO gestal giftset thinking it's real and paid a bundle for it.

As to the KOs themselves, I'm praying these turn up in a Dollar store around. Yay for repaint fodder.

If you're afraid of buying a knock off, or fear that an online purchase may not be an official release, check with the fine folks in our Toyark section. We have members who are really good at spotting knock offs, no matter how close they are to the real thing.
