Comixology have a new sale up featuring the digital versions on IDW Transformers comics: UK Comics, Graphic Novels and Manga on Sale - Comics by comiXology: Web UK US Comics, Graphic Novels and Manga on Sale - Comics by comiXology
The banner on Comixology says, "Sale ends 11/30 at 11 EST, or for select stores, Local time." Is the sale really going to last for the rest of the year?
I'm still new to the IDW comics working my way through that humblebundle Transformers which had the collections and GI Joe crossover stuff, is there anything that is a must buy in this sale to complement that?
Any More Than Meets The Eye collection you don't have. Any Wreckers collection you don't have Any Lost Light collection you don't have.
Is all of MTMTE good or is only the first few volumes? People always rave about it so I was just curious? How about Lost Light in comparison?
I'd say that it's consistently good through to about Volume 7. From there on out it gets kind of inconsistent, and the writing's been particularly weak since the relaunch as Lost Light. (In contrast, Barber's Robots in Disguise/The Transformers/Optimus Prime has gotten stronger and stronger over time, and has had some really fantastic, all-time-classic issues since the relaunch as Optimus Prime.)
whereas I'd say it has had it's occasional ups and downs, one of which coincided with the Lost Light relaunch, but presently is on fine form. As ever YMMV BUT I'd say avoid like the plague after the first few RiD trades. The Optimus Prime art isn't good to my eye.
Part of it depends on where people live. Even though I'm American and use the US Comixology store, I can't access any IDW TF comics from my physical location in Japan. If I use the above links, it takes me to a Comixology page with nothing on it. Not even the usual "OOPS, we can't find what you were searching for" message.
One recommendation I'd make to the curious reader is Optimus Prime #9. I'd peg it as a strong contender for the best-ever single-issue story in IDW Transformers, both in writing and art. Man, this... this I don't even know how to respond to! All I can say is that Kei Zama has become one of my favourite IDW interiors artists. IMO, her and Burcham's work together on Optimus Prime is beautiful.
