Do you think for when choosing new characters, the staff thinks of a role/archtype for the cast/factions and then chooses the a chooses the character that best fits that role/archtype (Or changes them to fit the role if they see fit)? If so, which new role do you think the cast needs, and on which faction. Which character do you think can fit that role, too?
Role: Ancient Autobot, Optimus' lost mentor and icon to all future generations of cybertronians, Autobot and Decepticon alike. Fitting character: Brains.
If I recall correctly, the producers mentioned in an interview that they'll send a general description of the proposed character's personality and history to Hasbro, who will then suggest a character that fits that description. As to the second question, I really can't think of any new roles that the cast needs at present. I wouldn't mind Slipstream as another foil for Starscream, but that's motivated more by my desire for a toy of her.
Well, it's not like they couldn't make a toy out of her anyway, even if she wasn't put in the show. Spoiler And they could make her a Starscream repaint. They wouldn't have to change anything besides the paint, seeing as Starscream already has killer legs and heels...
Autobots: Role: Saboteur/Field Medic Character: Jolt He could be a rival to BB, and should sound like Garrus. Role: Diversionist Character: Hound He could be more of a Native American, and be a Jeep Wrangler in looks. Role: Chemical Warfare Specialist Character: Blazemaster He should be pyrophobic, but an Airport Crash Tender, a vehicle that isn't used much in real life, but when it is, it does its job fast and with precision. He should be very smart, larger than prime, and nice. But very dangerous when in combat. Decepticon: Role: Supplies and Quartermaster Character: Payload He should be stringy, but sociable. An armored truck, he should be cream/navy. Role: Combat Engineers Characters: Constructicons Number: Seven Ones used: Scavenger, Long Haul, Scrapper, Dirt Boss, Overload, Mixmaster, Hightower. Combination: Not at first
Role: Antagonistic Autobot. Someone who conflicts with Optimus Prime, bringing out his characteristics by being his foil, much as TFA Sentinel was for TFA Optimus. They can be uncaring about the fate of the humans in contrast to his compassion for them, for example. Suggested Character: I would have cast Sentinel in this role, but the name was taken by Optimus's deceased predecessor. Perhaps we could take cues from Animated Sentinel's design and give him a different name.
Role: Decepticon. Psychotic mad-man, even on Decepticon standards. Speedster who loves the road. Doesn't follow plans too well, but always gets the job done. Suggestion: Wildrider
Role: Ancient 'bot of all wisdom and knowledge. Character: Jetfire (ROTF-esque). Voice actor: Mark Ryan. Role: Elite Decepticon Assassin. Character: Crankcase [DOTM-esque]. Voice actor: Mark Acheson [Unicron in "Armada" and Crumplezone in "Cybertron"]. Role: Hacker [besides Soundwave, of course]. Character: Frenzy [Movie One-esque]. Voice actor: Reno Wilson.
I would rather say a CHEVROLET-SUV [looks more threatening and omnious]. And I don't think Frenzy would need an alt-mode. But the one you described would be hilarious, I mean, imagine a highway chase: BB as a Sleek Camaro, Optimus as that badass truck, Arcee as a fast-as-hell motorcycle, then comes Frenzy as....that. I can imagine the Autobots cracking up at him.
Could work. Perhaps make him partner to Barricade [voiced by Keith David], the "Punish and Enslave" group.
