Found these on Taobao, and there's some interesting things to see. We can see Cindersaur's Cyber Key is a clear blue Planet X key with a tampoed G2 Decepticon logo and purple boarder.

There's also an auction showing four different Botcon Breakdowns, and interestingly enough, one has a black G2 Decepticon logo rather than blue.

    Cindersaur:

Not likely, the other three are identical normal Breakdowns, the fourth is clearly very different in paint pattern, with a blue-outlined Decepticon logo instead of black-outlined.

The most popular theory is that it's the "lost" G2 Cindersaur. The other two, Flamefeather and Sparkstalker have the same purple and green in robot mode and clear plastic in beast mode, one red, one yellow. Blue would complete the trio, thus the theory goes.

Has there been a variant Botcon toy since Onyx Prime?

In 2001, Arcee was available with a voice chip and without a voice chip. But that variant was done on purpose.

And in 2005, the Chinese company that manufactured the Flamewar figure mistakenly put Autobot symbols on her. FunPub caught the error in time so "Autobot Flamewar" was never released, but there are THREE of these that exist that I assume are under lock and key at FunPub HQ.

Actually, that Arcee was a packaging variant, not a toy variant. (unlike the Onyx Prime with the Gold lettering on the back as the voice chip was in the box not the toy.) And, I don't think that I'd count a toy that was never offered as a variant like the Autobot Flamewar.

BTW, where did you hear about the Flamewar variant? I've never heard of it before and I like to think that I'm a very knowledgeable guy when it comes to Transformer Toys.

Yeah, I would say this looks like the lost G2 Cindersaur. Also, I wonder if the Breakdown 'variant' is more along the lines of either an early test sample, to see how a somewhat filled in symbol would look, or just an early production error ala Autobot Flamewar. I honestly doubt it'll be a variant that will be purchasable at Botcon.

I do kinda think that too, but... I do also think that if that's the case, it's kinda weird the early test sample show up now(rather late) and with regular versions...

That was my first immediate thought when "Breakdown Variant" was mentioned as well.

But looks like no slot for a G1 Breakdown, unless they can somehow do that as the customizing figure. I'd guess the slots go like this:

    Boxed set:
Spark & Streetwise vs. Clench, Breakdown & Skybyte

    Freebie:
    Gnaw/Sharkticon

    Souvenir sets:
    #1 "G2" set: Rapido & Cindersaur
#2 "SG" set(though Scorch isn't SG): Scorch, SG Ravage & SG Wheeljack

Well, as far as I know, none of the Autobot Flamewars ever got out to the public and we only know about it because FP showed us the few samples that they got. Which I believe they keep under lock and key. It's possible that any early samples of this were all sent to FP... with perhaps one sticking around somewhere before someone finally smuggled it out of the factory. Considering this is the only example of this version we've seen it's really hard to actually know what's going on with it.

I'm believing less and less in the Double Punch repaint... But these sets are MUCH smaller than the typical Botcon exclusive souvenir set - there's GOT to be a larger figure in there SOMEWHERE...

Gen 1 Breakdown as the class fig sounds plausible and even likely...

Agreed, we've never been without a large-scale exclusive, especially getting two voyagers last year. I still believe in the Sharkticon troop builder since the last one was so popular, and Rapido as the freebie (I dont buy the "the head makes it too expensive" excuse when the toy technically isn't free, they make the money up regardless of how they give it out and it's more important that it uses a mold from the box set anyway), so the only reason we have so many deluxes is holding back budget for a large-scale toy, most likely an Ultra. I still foresee this:

    Attendee: Rapido
    Souvenir #1: Sharkticon x3
Souvenir #2: Scorch w/ Ravage and Cindersaur
Souvenir #3: SG Wheeljack and SG Scorponok (as Double Punch and a new head, as there's no remolds in the souvenirs like this)

They're big on balance this year, the G2 leaders together, the G2 combiners together, Sky-byte getting soldiers... if we're getting two Actionmaster homages they'll be together, and most likely SG since we never saw SG Scorponok. That's also why I still hold to Rapido as the freebie, it'll even the sides to the box set and looking at the rest, he really is the odd man out.
