Holy Shit! Spoilers-a-coming! Spider-Woman is a Skrull...Queen! I know lots of people called it but I was shocked. It doesn't reveal when she swaps with Spider-Woman or even if Spider-Woman is still alive.
I read it and didn't care. Honestly, here has been so little character development in the last few years, when they do something like this, I get no reaction what so ever
It'll turn out that the 616 Marvel U is really all Skrull and its all a psychological civil war only to be defeated and taken over by the Ultimate Marvel U.
You don't think Spider-Woman has had any character development? I personally think she's one of the only Avengers to get some in recent years (besides Luke Cage). She had her Origin series, lots of development with playing the sides between Hydra and Shield. New Avengers 23 was one of the best issues in the series. You may not be a fan but she has had a lot of character development in the run of New Avengers.
^ truth. So the question of the day...if Spider-Woman is a Skrull, The Skrull it would seem, then why did she take dead Elektra Skrull to Tony? And does Fury know she's a Skrull (before or after their meeting in Mighty #12)?
I would say she did it to control the situation and to cause Stark to become paranoid about those he thinks he can trust. The cat was let out of the bag as soon as the Electra Skrull was discovered. If she had tried to destroy the body, one of the others would have eventually told Stark and brought her own identity into question.
I sorta thought something might be up when the Spiderwoman ongoing just kind of... vanished. It was going to be launched sometime 2007, and then vanished. I was wondering why that had happened until the questions about whether she was a Skrull or not came up.
Before anyone starts getting their knickers in a twist... It hasn't actually shown the Skrull Queen replacing Spider-woman just yet. Only that she has the ability of causing the most trouble for them, and that she's a prime target. Honestly, I think it's a not-so-clever attempt to throw the general public off the trail of who's who, and who isn't. But we'll have to find out.
This is the first issue of anything that has actually made me care a bit about Secret Invasion, including, well, Secret Invasion #1. It was a very good take on the whys and wherefores of the Skrull side of things and how this all came about. I liked it.
My first thought when the Skrulls were revealed was Spiderwoman was going to be one, because we hadn't seen the ongoing solo series we'd been told about. Then, there's this which had me wondering. My first thought on reading that last page, though, was "Well, this doesn't mean anything, if Jess works it out quickly enough and manages to stay not-replaced, she's in a great position to really screw things up for the Skrulls." Granted, I think that's going to be unlikely with the fact they dedicated an entire issue to it.
