Thought this was funny in a good-natured way and wanted to share it. Kind of brings up a good point, though :D

lol that is classic and a good point too, while hasbro bitches and moans about unlicensed 3rd party toy companies they hardly will take the time and actually make something correct or get the rights for it themselves. So in a way its almost as if they have themselves to blame for their own issues.

Oh I totally agree, it's the pot and kettle time and time again.....it's just unfortunate (and typical) that the moment they try to pick up on it HasTak have done it right!

I'm pretty sure that that wasn't the issue.

Hasbro is legally in the clear in what they do. 3rd Party companies, well, it varies from group to group. FansProject, MakeToys, TFC? Probably in the clear, or at least in a legal gray area. iGear, producing toys directly based of HasTak molds? Not so hot. Mastermind, producing toys directly-based on Hasbro-owned imagery? Probably not legal either.

But there's enough legal wiggle room with a lot of the stuff that Hasbro can't give a concise response on the subject.

But their crackdown this year, IMO, has a simpler explanation, not mired in those trademark/copyright issues. They wised-up after last year, with its massive 3rd Party showing, so they enforced their stance this year: BotCon is as much a trade show as it is a fan convention. With that in mind, they can't have unsolicited outside parties trying to integrate themselves into the fabric of the brand. It actually poses liability issues.

true and that is understandable when having a said reputation to keep up at certain public events, but the same could be said about the GI Joe convention but they have yet to really enforce much about that except remove some of the dealers who sell cast body parts for custom figures and I can understand how there is some legal grey area there. How I feel what needs to happen is the fans should be heard as well as the normal consumers too. Everyone has opinions on how they feel a company should be run or their legal issues they should overcome buy just throwing money at it, except that isn't the reality of any situation. If 3rd parties are going to exist they need to find a way they can either be supported by hasbro or takara or at least have some of their designers and engineers work for hasbro/takara and make some limited runs exclusively sold through both companies that way everyone has their rights and no one would be able to complain about anything. But that only exists in a perfect world which nothing can be perfect these days, there is always a flaw somewhere.

3rd parties working WITH has/tak?....no way, keep on dreaming.

The more likely scenario is has/tak hiring 3rd party designers to work for them...which could be good but don't think that it would mean official gestalts or triple changers...it would only amount to more talent in the has/tak stable.

I'm pretty sure nobody still needs this spelled out at this point. I just thought it was funny; I didn't mean to perpetuate the debate.
