Every time I go to install this on my desktop, I get the following error:

    Local machine: installation failed
    Installation:
Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key....
    Error 0x80070005

I've tried running the file normally and as the admin, but same problem. Can any of the tech guys here give me some advice? I've also posted this on the AVG Free board, but I know there are some pretty good people here as well for this kind of thing.

    Thanks!

What is the complete registry key it's pointing to? Have you checked it out to see what's there?

Stupid question, but I don't use AVG, does AVG have OS specific installers? (ie. an XP installer and a different Vista installer? If so, are you using the right one? 32 bit v 64 bit as well?)

I'm a little gun shy when it comes to registry diving, but here is what is listed there:

    Name: (Default)
    Type: REG_SZ
    Data: (value not set)

When I go to look at it it pops up an error: "Cannot Edit: Error reading the value's contents"

That sounds like a corrupted registry key to me - I would delete that single entry and try installing again, but if you delete the wrong thing POOF! Gotta be careful.

Can't edit it, can't delete it, can't create a new in that location. :(

Turns out the permissions were messed up. Once I got those reset, it worked fine.

    Thanks MMM for the help!
