Just got a job offer in Manhattan and now I need to rent an apartment. Can someone recommend a good neighborhood in queens or any surrounding area?

My brother who lives in Woodside says:

"I would check out Astoria or Woodside in Queens. You could probably find something in the $900-1300 for a small apartment. Or in Brooklyn Sunset Park and Bensonhurst are reasonable usually too. A couple places you could look for stuff is on Craigslist and Citi Habitats."

Good is subjective, be more clear. Good as you'll wake up the next morning without being woken by gun shots or good as in good price?

and just be a jerk, I'm going to say Brownsville. *hides*

    Rent.com
    apartments.com
    craigslist.com
Id go with apartments or rent before craigslist though. Depends on if you wanna sign a lease or not since people on craiglist alot of times take rent under the table with no contract or lease. Which over all is better but not for when it comes for the landlord to fix a problem in the apartment. Also if you get a lease they have to give you notice of eviction whch gives you time to find a new place instead of some joe saying get the hell out! (if it ever came down to it) lol So up to you. Good luck!

Thanks for all the input. Looks like I will live in either upper east or midtown-east manhattan.
