    Ebay:
My dad's birthday is in a few days and he's a big Star Trek fan. I thought about getting him the original series on DVD, but's from what I've seen the boxsets are really expensive and he already has the series on vhs (don't know if he'll touch the dvd's). I also thought about getting some sort of model ship or toy of some kind, but I don't know anything about Star Trek. I really want to get him something he wouldn't expect (so no ties, cards, watches, etc), but I don't know where to start.

Anyone have any suggestions (preferably Star Trek related and under $200)?

along the lines of transmetropolitan (damn man.. your name is huge)

Determine which generation (pun?) of Star Trek he was more into.. the original .. next generation.. etc

and just do some searching.. a good place would be BBTS.. just to browse what's out there.. and see what you might think is cool and affordable.. and then find out more about it.. or even ask the board members here..

If your dad is into quality, the DVDs aren't a bad way to go. plus there's extras i think on the dvd sets.. and maybe commentaries.. those things are new

EDIT: well.. at first glance.. BBTS is sold out of everything star trek.. i checked entertainment earth.. and they have some really cool looking stuff and they have BIG thumbnails :)

They have a cool looking klingon action figure and a few models of the enterprise
