Problem is, I can't remember the title.

The game was released somewhere around 1998 and 2001 and plays in 3rd person.

You are this non-transforming robot that walks around in a huge city. You have several weapons at your disposal and must destroy waves of tanks, helicopters and onfoot soldiers. I think there were other robots too, but I can't remember. I do remember that you could squish soldiers by walking on them and climb building.

This was around the same time that Shogo was released (FPS transforming mecha game). Unfortunately, the game wasn't a huge success, as it had its fair share of bugs.

I was thinking the same thing, but that was released much later than Shogo MAD if I remember.

1999, so it's right in the time frame he asked for though. I'm wracking my brains trying to think of any other giant robot games from that era... there weren't all that many that were 3rd person games.

Yeah, I just checked and saw it was a year later than Shogo. Since I can't think of anything else that fits the description, I'm going to stick with Slave Zero as well (also on the Dreamcast I believe).

It's not Heavy Gear, Heavy Gear was mainly in the cockpit and the Gears are much smaller. It really sounds like Slave Zero, is the robot sort of organic like? It also cant be Shogo because the Mechs do actually transform and the game is in 1st person.

Heavy Gear 2, released at the time, doesn't match as it was primarily first person as well as outdoor, non-city environments. OP also said it wasn't Shogo, which currently leaves Slave Zero.

Slave Zero! Yes, that's the one! Thanks for the info!

Kind of a letdown to see that it doesn't run on XP though.
