You can't just say "bam, go to DVD." There are a few different steps involved.

Will you be burning to a DVD disc, or making a VCD disc (regular CD, usually works in most DVD players)?

This site has a ton of guides and how-to's (and was found with a simple Google search ;)  ). You should be able to find all the steps you need to follow as well as most of the info on software you will need.

From a quick scan, there are some programs that can convert to the .vob file that DVD players use, but for the most part you should be able to convert to MPEG-2 and burn that with no real issues.

Try NeroVision Express. You can drag and drop video files (in multiple formats) into your DVD project, and the program will convert them for you. It also allows you to generate neato menus for your DVD projects. I'm sure there are buttloads of similar programs out there that do this very same thing, but I've used this one personally with great results.

Has Nero got a decent encoder yet? The one in Nero 6's DVD authorer was shite, it didn't do overscan zones, it mangled anything that wasent 4x3 and the bitrate options were almost non-existent.
