How do you know it was a virus that caused the problem?

    PC?

Start it up in safe mode, you have to hit a function key during start up to bring up a diagnostic menu with the option for safe mode, (F9? F12? I forget)

Once in safe mode it should be reasonably stable and not restart. Once everything has booted (and there shouldn't be too much) open up Norton and run a recovery from there.

Does it keep rebooting on startup or randomly while you're using the PC?

ok, i brought norton, it said it was missing some protection and had to change from 5.00 to 5.01. did that, computer restarted did safe mode now it says everything is fine. hopefully everything is okay.

it might have been a virus, i clicked on something that i wasn't suppose to click while looking up lyrics to songs.

it did startup randomly once while using the computer afterwards and then kept rebooting at startup after that.

Ahh, ok. Yeah, I would have to agree then that it was malicious code causing the rebooting. If it was random, the cause is normally due to hardware failures, overheating, driver issues, etc. If it's stuck in a rebooting loop at startup, it's 99.9% usually malware.

Do a check. Go to 'Run' in the startup menu, type 'cmd' and hit 'enter'. If your computer restarts after hitting 'enter', a virus may still be present in your system.
