I know these are sort of shown in the Neca thread but I think Gremlins should have their own. The new Gremlins series from Neca/Reel toys is by far the best so far that they have done to date. The new series focuses more on the second movie this time, which to me gave us some of the craziest Gremlins, which stemmed from the more comical approach the movie had from the first. This time around we are getting several Mogwais and several Gremlins. The Mogwais are Gizmo, Rambo Gizmo, Daffy, Lenny, George, and Mohawk. The Gremlins we are getting are Daffy, Lenny, George, Flasher (based on the 2nd movie design) Phantom (which had acid tossed in his face in the lab in the second movie) and lightning Gremlin (which drank a medical experiment in the 2nd movie that changed his appearance. Figures yet to come not shown on the package are Mogwai Stripe, A Gremlin Cocoon and Mohawk Spider Gremlin as well. I think we might get just a plain green Gremlin. While I enjoy the designs and character these new figures capture, they are still not with out some qualms. These are mostly nit-picks but I feel some other design elements could have been implemented. Mogwais: Limited poseability which is ok for the size of the figure, but amazingly they have 3 movements in the arms alone. Shoulder, elbow, and wrist, but do not bend, more of rotation movement. The ears can move and have excellent rotation in the head. The eyes can move but move as one with a track ball on the back of the head. What I have found between the 3 Mogwais so far is they all move a little different. They can get stuck sometimes and on my George Mogwai one eye moves too far left then the other, almost disappearing. I also feel that Gizmos eyes or pupils are just a little too big, at times he looks high or drunk lol. I think it would have been cool if they were able to have fur on theme, even if they cost a little more, it would have been kind of cool. Apparently the Stripe and Mohawk Mogwais will have hair Mohawks, not plastic painted hair. Skip to 3:50 to see the Spider Gremlin: NECA - Toy Fair 2011 Interview - YouTube I dont know if it has to do with the photography on the packaging versus the toy, but the toys in hand are actually painted darker compared to the pictures on the back of the box, which kind of hinders the look on the Lenny and Gizmo Mogwai as to me they are a little too dark. You can see in this video, even the Lenny on display is much lighter. NECA Gremlins Display @ SDCC' 11 - YouTube! Gremlins: Some of the Gremlins seem to be a little tricky to stand due to the way the legs move and can be posed. The legs can move at the hip, knee and ankle. The arms can move at shoulder, elbow and wrist. I do wish the arms had better movement in rotating for poseability. The heads for the most part just move left to right but again, here, especially Daffy, can not move down or back like the Mogwai heads. I do think they would have been better in being able to bring the heads down more as they are kind of transfixed in an up looking position. I also think the ears could have had some movement as well as the eyes again here. If it could be done on the Mogwais why not the Gremlins as well? Some of the Gremlins also seem to reuse other parts, such as same arms or hands, which I am sure is a cost factor to save money, which is fine. One thing I will say about the choices of Gremlins, is I think they could have done better. I think the lightning Gremlin is a wasted space. I mean $15.99 for a blue, translucent piece of non-moving plastic is a shame. He could have maybe been a little smaller and been included with one of the others, maybe like the phantom. I would have preferred to get the Bat Gremlin or maybe the Vegetable Gremlin. Or maybe have an exclusive pack with lab created Gremlins. We definitely need Greta, the female Gremlin too! But I know more is to come so you never know. So I hope this little info is helpful for those interested in this line as well as Gremlins. Again these are just my opinions and nit-picks and suggestions. I absolutely love these figures and fit perfect with the rest of my Gremlins collection. As new figures come out I will update this thread. You can also find all these at Toys R Us, or at TRU online which is what I did. Gizmo: Mogwai George: Lenny Mogwai: Daffy Gremlin: George Gremlin: Flasher Gremlin: Miscellaneous:
Great review and photos. These are much nicer than the original ones NECA put out years ago. I might have to pick these up.
What a coincidence! I was just informed that some import stores in my country has got them and I'm thinking picking these up! I picked up the SDCC Gizmo and I love the little bugger!
Darn, it seems that none of the import stores in my country has both the Mogwis and Gremlins sets together...anyway, does anyone know if the coat from flasher can be removed? I'm thinking of getting 1 just to display as a normal Gremlin!
yes it can, and i do think we will be getting a plain gremlin, but not sure. but again u can remove it.
