This is just so full of win.

EDIT: Okay, it kinda isn't. Ironic, however.

I wouldn't call this a win. It's actually kind of tragic. If you read the article, the men harvested the shellfish to help feed their families. They just didn't have a license to do it, which they probably couldn't afford. I also find it kind of stupid that it's fine to harvest perlemoen if you have a license, but if not, you're automatically labeled a poacher.

Yeah, there's pretty much no part of this story that isn't depressing.

That being said, sounds like the victim had some... shellfish friends...

Whatever. I don't consider this poaching. Killing rhinos and elephants for ivory, yes. Collecting some clams to earn money to feed your family, no.

poaching or not, this is still sad. Ifi were there, just hearing what was happening behind me would scar me for life, knowing i atleast didn't TRY to do anything(even though i couldn't have anyways)

As much as I hate to agree with Lars because of the immature rudeness of his reply, poaching is the illegal taking of wild animals or plants. I understand your point Fuzz, like TransformerVic1 said it's just sad. There's obviously bigger problems here than just poaching.

Protip: Those poachers killing rhinos and elephants for ivory are selling that ivory to feed their families. These people are selling the clams for money to feed their families. Switch Savanna for Ocean and its pretty much the exact same thing.

Well...now we know where Jaws goes on vacation from Martha's Vineyard.

Sucks about the guy though, he was only trying to feed his family.

The saddest part about this whole endeavor to me is that the poachers are just harvesting what they think is a normal delicacy of their heritage in order to make enough money to keep their heads above water.

Wow, it did that seal-catching leap?
Er, I really didn't mean to come across as excited about that...

This is sad, I couldn't really find anything funny about it.

My condolences to the guy's family.

That's pretty crazy. Great white's are NOT man-eaters. They usually just test bite swimmers and those who die usually bleed to death before help can arrive. But this...that shark was going for the kill. Based on how the kill was described, it went after the man like he was a seal. I'm guessing it was a case of mistaken identity...but damn. That's really sad.
