For the last few days whenever I put a game into the disc tray it fails to load and a white screen appears stating that "This game can only be played on a Microsoft Xbox 360" I'm very sure I just put the game into my 360, maybe it thought it was suddenly a PS3

I'm worried as I don't want the RROD, I really don't want it but got this feeling with repeated errors like this its on its way. Old games i've played a hell of a lot like COD4 struggle to initially load now and same goes for games i've only just taken out of the wrapping like Red Faction: Guerrilla.

It all only started to happen since updating my console with the latest update. Any ideas what all this means or what I can do to restore its previous perfect functionality?

    Thanks

p.s i've read its possible my disc drive is dead http://uk.gamespot.com/forums/show_msgs.php?board_id=909102864&topic_id=25736698 :( :(

Mine's done that a couple of times. Try installing the game to the HDD?

Cheers man i'll give it a try.

Does having the machine vertical or horizontal affect this type of things? As my xbox has always stood vertical, maybe a change is on order.

Might do, there's a ton of things that could be wrong: dirty laser, warped disc, scratched disc etc.

I know the last time that happened to me, there was a huge smudge on the disc.

There may be dust in the DVD drive, particularly on the lens, if you've had the console a while.

I installed COD4 and it was 7 gig. Thats a huge chunk of my hardrive yet it runs silently and loads uber quickly. No problems since.

Haven't tried any other game yet though
