i had posted this in the toynova and on the los angeles collective board so i though i might as well posted it here. just note this is my first custom toy so don't expect a holy grail.

i wanted to make a custom powermaster optimus prime because i always felt that he was a big brick in robot mode, and this has some sentimental value to me. this was the first optimus prime i ever owned as a kid. behold prime so far!

i took parts from a powermaster prime, masterpiece prime (the hasbro dvd release, you know the one with the bad paint job) a rid scouge (i think a ko but it did what i wanted) and some gundam parts.

i have decided that it will be transformable!!!! and heres the proof

    Head on ball joint now

    his backpack as well

i have to now just make the upper thighs look better and then i can start going more detailed.

one i made the joints abit stronger so no more loose joints, and use some super glue (just abit) to strengthen some parts. also prime has a new gun (well one i took from a gundam but he doesn't need it anymore)

    Thats BFG!!!!

i wanted to give his back side something more lol

    Nice work!
I recognize most of the parts, but I'm not sure where
you used Scourge parts -- can you point out where?

First of all, welcome to Radicons! Thanks for sharing your work :thumb  This is a great attempt for a first custom. I think it's especially cool that you went for something that means a great deal to you and that you'll be the only enjoying it - the fact that it's a labor of love is very evident.

You've already said you want to do some refining, so you may already see some areas of improvement. Mainly, what I'm seeing is that hip articulation can use some attention. It's a bit hard to tell, but it seems that the bottom portion of the legs could be fitted inside the PM Prime's legs just a bit. I think I'd reserve judgment on that until the hips were refined, as that might fix both of those issues.

But, yeah, overall? Great! I hope we see more from you! :thumb

thank you all for the compliments and the constructive criticism the hip articulation is good right now but i need to work on fixing up that area. now the upper part of the legs, and the waist piece is from a ko rid scourge, but i cut out some of the plastic on the pm prime waist area so that i could enclose the rid parts with the pm parts. i will post pics later to give you a better understanding.

upper thighs, right where they go into the crotch.a very slick way to enable him to do the splits!!

    very cool start!!!
i love the rocket pods/pack on his back!!!
i like what's going on here so far!
if i may offer a small suggestion though, have you though about doing anything with the arms when it's in trailer mode?they seem kinda off or sticking out a bit.
if the elbows can still swivel all the way around on the pm arms, what if you turned them around 180 degrees.it could make almost like a car carrier for the top of the cabs roof.you may even be able to mount two black bfgs up there too.

(sorry for rambling,i just really like prime in every incarnation, and you've got a wicked start going on to him!!!)

can't wait to see the end result!!!!:thumb

i did try your idea, i admit i didn't even think of it but since i added the bfg i need some way to incorporated into the truck mode. but the arms get blocked by the smoke stacks on prime, and it does make an interesting cannon mod, something like galvatron, hell maybe i can do a cannon mode lol! i will work on this further, but I'm going to wait abit until more parts come. i just bought another pm prime trailer and I'm going to use some parts of that to fill gaps and to repair some of the parts i did on him.

I like PMOP upgrade customs and would like to try one someday, but why is it that trailer mode always suffers so badly? There MUST be a way to get the legs to work while keeping the original trailer configuration.

    Can't the legs just telescope?

well the trailer is a brick in robot mode so expanding it (give it articulation) its always going to look odd until you go in and make corrections.

That looks real good man, If I may make a suggestion you should cut the neck down and put his head a little further down. It kind of looks like his head is too high.

    Looks great!

Looking sweet! The most posable PM Prime i think i've seen. Still not sure about the upper thighs tho, can the fat silver bits be cut, reinforced and extended? Might be tough to do. Looks cool as is anyway!

thanks for comments folks :)  however i can't really lower his head any more other wise i need to redo the whole neck area, if i did lower it there would be stablity problems with the plastic that acts as a ball joint. the thighs i think are good but ones i repaint the black parts it will look better ;)
