Hey knoted. I wanted to let you know the replacement set arrived, is customized and on. I don't know the details of the tweaks you made, but this set seems to be absolutely perfect, flawless. Thanks again for such a terrific upgrade.
Glad to see it all worked out as intended I'm only slowly expanding my shapeways portfolio, but I always make sure to fix what needs fixing for customer satisfaction.
Ordered this set for my Kup a couple days ago, and just started prep-work on it tonight, doing a full repaint merging the animation model and idw lsotw designs, kind of annoyed the paint on the windshield is such a pain to remove, lol Out of curiosity though, any chance of a remold set for the Orion pax version? I feel a more boxy design fits crosshairs better, but I really want those wrist swivels and maybe even an alteration to the vehicle silhouette.
Unexpected Shapeways rant : Shapeways have premiered Premium WSF and Premium BSF even before launching the HP material which has been in beta for some time now. The Premium WSF/BSF doesn't come cheap at nearly double the price of the classic WSFP. During the HP beta, my beta prints came out just fine as the quality equivalent to what should have been Black Strong Flexible Polished ; and indeed, it was priced nearly identical to any of the colored Strong Flexible Polished products. So you would expect the HP material to launch at that price, if its quality is nearly identical to the Strong Flexible Polished products ( but inferior to the Premium WSF/BSF ) right ? Apparently, Shapeways has adjusted HP material pricing to match Premium WSF/BSF pricing. I am rather disgusted, because the HP material - as of now - only offers black and gray in a quality which is no better than the finish as found on the colored Strong Flexible Polished materials.
The one upside is that the HP Nylon can support detail similar to HD and FXD. I think they were scared of the competition from both angles. I'm planning on getting a Titan Master head port I worked up in HP Nylon because it seems like the optimum balance of sturdy and detailed. It's a shame Shapeways decided to price it defensively against their other products as it seems to me that HD and HP Nylon (depending on the application) look to me like the two ideal plastics for TFs, depending on how much pressure you expect the piece to take. Very small tabs, ball joints, etc. really don't have a lot of great options for 3D printing. I'm disappointed with how much work it seems to take to give anything semi-rugged a gloss look outside of the HD Acrylate. Seems like HDA for faces and cosmetic surfaces and HPN for small, functional parts would be a winning nix. As it stands with Shapeways pricing, the HP Nylon looks best saved for very small parts that need detail and ruggedness.
Update! Sculpteo has the same HP Nylon for around half the price and an inexpensive polishing option that adds maybe 10% to the price. And they seem to do a 25% off promo on Black Friday every year...
This is so amazing. Just received it yesterday. I need to paint it first then I´ll send some photos...
