I've had this idea in my head since I got the original Japanese release, and I finally got around to doing it. I figure since his tail pieces join up with his wings in alt mode, they could attach there. Then they just have to fold in half and rotate to sit nicely on his back in 'bot mode.

As you can see I kept it simple with a thin piece of speaker wire serving as a flexible joint. Two closely-spaced ball joints would do the same thing if you felt adventurous. Alt mode is not changed in appearance at all.

The only other thing I had to change was the nubs near his fists. They had to go to make transformation possible.

Not bad... I think I prefer the fix that permanently attaches the fins to the legs because it's more G1-accurate, and gives his legs a little more mass. But this is a pretty cool solution too.

I was thinking about the leg mount, but he never had fins on his legs in any G1 comic or animation model...

I wanted to give this a shot.

Well, MPScream has always had crap balance and this certainly hasn't helped any. He's more top-heavy by the slightest bit, so he is noticeably less stable. I haven't found any pose that my stock Skywarp can do that moddedScream can't, but you wouldn't want to bump the display shelf.

As you can see from the silver primer paint in the photos, Screamer isn't done going through the mod wringer yet. Aside from finishing up the paint, I'm looking at ways to extend a heel from the thrusters or the flaps on the back of his calves. I'll let you know if I come up with anything good.

I've never experienced stability issues. It just takes some fiddling to get the thrusters positioned right as well as the feet.

True, though the fins were leg-mounted in the G1 toy, and in the original box art.

Also, having those fins on his legs actually can help with the afore-mentioned balance issues. ;)
