I think it may be suicidal. But seriously. I turn on my comp, and start up some program that uses sound. That works fine, but as soon as I try to use some other program that uses sound (like just watching a YouTube vid) I will get nothing, or an error. Then I try to adjust my sound settings and I get an "No active mixers found" and when I look into my control panel and select "audio devices" I get no default devices. I have to re-install the card as "game ports" each time I turn on my computer in order to fix it. Anyone know how to fix it permanently?
Remove the card from the slot, fill the slot with superglue, push the card back into place and maintain pressure for 30 seconds, tell the little bastard to stay put, and then reboot. That should fix it. I used to have a USB card that would uninstall itself on Friday nights and go drinking with my stupid neighbor, which is why my mouse never worked on Saturday mornings. Yeah, he got the superglue treatment. Seriously, though, I don't think I've ever seen a problem quite like that. When did it start doing this? Did it just start right out of the blue?
Has Kickback pee'd on it? No, we are never going to let him live that one down. In all seriousness it could be a problem with the slot. Try getting updated drivers like suggested and if that doesn't work try changing the slot its in and see how that goes. I may need to get a new sound card as my current one isn't supported by Vista
