hey guys, I've been lurking for a couple of days, and thought I'd share this with you,

My Son wanted a Bumblebee Costume for Halloween, and the ready made ones at wal-mart really suck.
so I got my hot glue gun, and two $6 Camping matress from wal-mart, a carpet knife, a whole lot of spray paint, and some LED lights, and attempted to make my own G1 costume for him.

I've got the whole process of putting it together HERE if you care to check it out.

    later!

thanks guys, I was originally trying to subtlely convince him to be a Ghostbuster, but you can imaging how I geeked out when he announced he wanted to be a Transformer.

    That is awesome!
Question about the paint. Did the spray paint eat into the foam at all?

thanks guys for all your kind words, I appreciate it.

I wanted to, but I ran out of time, lol. I'm debating on a grimlock costume for me, and maybe a Wheelie one for him next year. his sister might want to go as Arcee, but I'm not going to hold my breath on it. the call of princess costumes is strong with her.

no it did not, another guy who made a more movie accurate bumblebee costume for his kid reccomended this kind of foam on his youtube vid for that very reason

first I used a coat of that fusion paint that bonds to plastic, and then just used a lot of chraper brands to save cash.

I tested each kind on foam scraps just in case, and didn't have any problems. I had heard the pool noodles melt with most sprays, so I was especially careful on the fenders, but never had any melting issues.

The main bulk of it was a closed cell camping mattress from wal-mart, the blue ones. the pool noodles I got at some dollar store.

not at all! go for it

tonight and monday we'll be taking some much better quality pics, these are all just on my cellphone. I've got some more of it being put together that I'll throw up on my blog over the weekend.
