So I have a 6 year old and 4 year old son. They have seen Animated and bits of G1 and Cybertron and play with the toys pretty regularly. Which is to say, they have grown up so far only knowing vehicle based Transformers. Not intentionally on my part, it just never really came up and I hadn't watched Beast Wars since the older one was a baby. Tonight for whatever reason I introduced them to the existence of Beast Wars. Somehow we got to talking about gorillas and I mentioned that Optimus had been one. And you will not believe what happened.

I swear this is true. These two little boys started arguing whether Optimus could be a monkey or whether he should always be a truck. Like, passionately debating the issue with each other to the point that I had to break it up before they started really fighting. But I also had to suppress laughing. I wonder...are we adults who debate these things acting like small children, or are the classic arguments like this one just something that comes with the territory and inherited into the dna of our kids?

I'm leaning towards the latter, minus the inheritance bit. The real lesson here is that where TF fandom is concerned, TRUKK NOT MUNKY will forever be here to stay.

    Cool story, bro.

    That...is amazing.

Your kids spontaneously reinvented TRUKK NOT MUNKY.

    It's almost...Platonic.

I am equal opportunity - I give my baby daughter Transformers to play with too. She could end up saying pony not monkey.

my son always has his shockwave/longarm toy as a hybrid of both guys. And I yell at him telling him he doesn't have it transformed right. Then he tells me that he was in some kind of accident and ended up that way, and he can play with him however he wants. And we go back and forth for a while. My son is becomeing a nerd too. :)

This is possibly the most thoroughly pleasing thing I have ever heard! It's kind of heart-warming in a way. I am happy to know that the next generation of TF fandom is well along the way to development.

You yell at your son about a mistransformed figure?

"he can play with him however he wants" yes...yes he can.

LOL, my daughter is becoming one too! Last weekend whle my son and wife were sleeping, she and I were sitting down watching Animated and when the credits started rolling she asked: " Daddy, we keep watching but Sari doesn't come back... is she on CYBERTRON now since she is a robot?" I almost cried, LOL
By the way she is only 3 and a half...

And of course, you resolved the issue by stating "PRIME NOT PRIMAL!" right?

That story is AWESOME!!! My boys on the other hand don't seem to really care either way. They figure they can scan what ever they want to be but are not the biggest Transformers fans out there. They are into about everything and seem to like the shows that use the anime smack talk for like 30 episodes before anything is backed up the best.
