Tried firing up Res Evil 5 and it froze up. I unplugged it instead of turning it off because, well, I forgot about the power switch. Long story short, after a half hour or so with Tech Support, he tells me it'll be $149 bucks. I have a baby on the way and enough expenses, but I have 5 or 6 games and more than a few Blu Ray discs. I'm pissed and at a loss. Mostly pissed because I may just end up paying it.

The 149 may only be for the diagnosis.

If the disk drive or any of the major components are dead it will be alot more.

    Nope.

It happened to mine about 4 months ago.

Sony repaired the system (well, replaced it with another of the same model).

$149...includes everything, parts, repair...shipping (which by my estimates was over $200 via UPS)

The service is pretty good...all things considered.

does that apply to older models too...even though the newer models have bigger HDD space, i would take smaller HDD space and BC over that any day.

Wait...unplugging it can damage it? Geez. I've unplugged PCs, my Wii, my HDTV when problems arise. It's quicker than waiting for shut down that never comes, and you end up having to yank the power anyway.

    Weird...

So is it $149 because it's out of warranty or because you caused the damage by unplugging it?

Unplugging it isn't what damaged it. If it was frozen, chances are the damage was already done. The power supply switch at the back of the PS3 does the same thing as physically unplugging it from the power outlet.

You get the model you sent in.

My 60 gig died, I got a 60 gig back.

(Actually, mine is this new-wave awesome monster. It's a 60 gig with BC and all, but with the corrected cooling and fan system they moved to.)

S*** happens, lesson learned. I have been making it a habit to quit the game first then power down the console just to avoid lost saves and bricking the console.

Never read it. Macbeth, Lear, and Othello, on the other hand. Maybe it was because everyone was making such a big hoot about Hamlet, that I avoided it...that and Romeo and Juliet.... So my only "sweet Prince" reference, is Aladdin. :)

Don't forget Futurama, the episode where Bender becomes human as seen through the What If machine.

Also, sucks that it broke, my first PS3 was busted when I got it and Sony wanted me to pay to repair it. I just exchanged it from where I bought it. It's always cheaper to save the money for the repair than having to buy a new one.
