Ok my nokia phone went dead. So i plugged it into the charging device. Alas, the phone won't turn on, nor will it charge. What is a young male 5'9'' freshman in college, likes long walks on the beach; saposed to do?

Take the phone to your local service provider. They will be able to tell you if it's the phone or charger or battery. Then you can fix said issue without problem.

Check the contacts. Make sure none are bent or broken. Clean 'em with erasers, and try to charge again.

Also, if you're at college, I'm sure you can borrow a compatible charger from someone else in your dorm. If it works, it's your charger. If not, it's your phone or battery.

It's most likely the battery. If it's an old phone, it's got a NiMh battery that's likely suffering from old age and memory. Even if it has a Lithium Ion, it's probably about reached the usable age limit on that.

Go to some "Batteries Plus" type of store, spend the 15 bucks for a new one, and the phone will be golden.

Or, just call your service provider, up the contract, and get a new one.

They have these things called "pay phones" if you need to call your parents, they are pretty helpful. Seems all you do is feed it coins and you can talk, or you can call collect.

It depends on the phone and the battery, but you shouldn't have to pay too much for one. Just make sure to check the dates on the labels to find when the battery was manufactured - buying a battery that's two or three years old, even if it's new, will only put you back in this same spot.

If your carrier doesn't have a local store, or if they don't have the battery you need, look in your yellow pages - most cities have some sort of "any type of battery you need" store, and they should have a good selection of cell phone batteries.

I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a pay phone in an area I would feel comfortable hanging out and talking on the phone..

Did it just suddenly not charge, or has the battery life been getting shorter and shorter?

If it really is the battery and you've had the phone long enough I would just consider renewing your contract and finding a free phone they have, or just drop 50 and get a brand new phone that would have been 150 or more.

You may have to look around at different stores for your service provider, since some of the stores are franchises and some are corporate and therefore will have different offers, but the corporate stores usually have the best products and prices in my experiences.

That's what I did earlier in the summer when my phone batter would only last about 20 hours. My contract had expired and so I was able to get a new generation Razor for only $50 after all of the new contract discounts and mail-in rebates.

Look up what kind of battery you need
    Google
    Find carriers
    Purchase
It will be there in 7-10 business days
