I recall seeing a nice 3D RPG maker that was in the works several years ago. It did 3D maps with sprite-based characters. It had a side view battle system that used 3D backgrounds, and a menu system similar to Wild Arms and Shining Force. I can't remember what the hell it was called, though. In regards to the game. One of the bosses needs to be Eido11. You also gotta fit the Milk Daddy in there somewhere.

Are all these RPG makers set in fantasy medieval times? I wanna make one in space with robots and aliens! Oh and an Indiana Jones RPG would be kickass! Indy used ARK on Belloq!... It's Super Effective!!!!!
Editing the tilesets and images you could just about do anything with enough effort. Right now just tinkering I edited the title screen and made my guy walk across to a island on a bridge to a in then fought something, not too hard to mess with, just tinker before you tutorial I think.
Just spent a bit of time messing with RMXP's scripting to get my battle calculations to work. The glitch I introduced into the system was unintentionally hilarious: The 21 damage, he could have survived. The .77333333333, not so much.
You can use your own sprites and artwork. There's already plenty of sci fi rpgs made with RPG Maker. You can also make other types of games, if you really know what you're doing. I've seen action rpgs, and even vertical shooters made with it.
Okay, so, update! After spending a sleepless night last night working on things, I've finally figured out how the Sideview Battle System works for RPG Maker VX. I'll post some screenshots in a little bit, but I've imported a lot of battle sprites from previous games. Bonus points to those who can figure it out who the bad guys are
Yes. I'm just trying a few things out right now. No one ever finished my Animated Vangelus sprite, so he's probably going to have to be a generic RPG-looking character.
