Here's my second attempt at Thundercracker (my first one was http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?t=129986 . I used a darker blue this time, and deliberately went for a metallic look this time. The pics don't do it justice; the finish looks smoother in person than they do here.

Unless Takara fixes the design issues with this mold, this will also be my last MP-03 repaint. I'm scared to transform it due to the poor wing-flange design; after just 5 careful articulations, the pin has cracked the joint very badly on one flange. I had hoped to do a Sunstorm repaint...:(

The decals on the base are the ones sodawilly commissioned Repolabels for; kudos to both of them! The Decepticon labels are also from Repolabels (I know some of you like 'em upside down, but I prefer 'em this way   )
    Enjoy!

And here's a shot with my poor Skywarp repaint. I wish I could do it over...

Nice! You did an amazing job, looks like factory work.

Hopefully Hasbro's version will be reinforced or made of stronger plastic.

I have yet to have a problem with my MP03, granted I haven't tried to take him apart either. Quality of plastic on him isn't much different then most high end figures I've got.

He looks good. Love the metallic sheen the blue has to it.

Sweet merciful crap, that has to be the best custom painted Thundercracker I've ever seen. Top notch paint work there. Extremely nice work dude.

    Amazing paint finish.

What paint and application are you using?
Also how did you do the yellow cockpit, is it dyed?

    Awesome work!

    Golgo:
I primarily used Tamiya spray paints. The silver was a high-luster metallic by Rust-oleum from their Specialty line, as was the clear lacquer I top-coated everything with. The real trick is prep--I cleaned, stripped, sanded, and primed (Tamiya primers kick-ass!) the whole model before painting--the sanding alone took about half of my total time, as I did the waist-mod to this, and improved many of the articulation points to reduce wear. I dyed the cockpit using RIT dye mixed with a little acetone, and let it sit over a weekend that I was out of town for. I'd have liked a deeper yellow than what I got, but I'm happy with it anyway.

Thanks for the replies, guys...I may try to transform it this weekend to post jet pics. We'll see...:confused2

Simply a superb job! I hope we get an official version that looks at least half as awesome as yours one day.
